When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best college team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR College Power 10.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the junior college level are better than say OSU or OU? No. But relative to their level, those JUCO teams could be having a better season than OSU or OU.

As a reminder, our first two Power 10 champs were ORU in 2023 after they made a run to the CWS and MACU in 2024 after their dominant SAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance as a #1 regional seed.

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the Week 9 rankings.

After spending the first 3 weeks at the top spot in the Power 10, NOC Tonkawa (NJCAA D2, 34-3) reclaims the top spot in Week 9. The Mavericks are 34-3 this season and 6-2 in conference. They are coming off a dominating performance this weekend sweeping Redlands by a combined score of 54-19.

OU (NCAA D1, 22-5) slips this week to #2 after dropping their first SEC series to Alabama. It doesn’t get any easier for the Sooners as they have LSU coming to town this weekend.

NOC Enid (NJCAA D2, 28-6) climbs to #3 after winning their series with a good UA Rich Mountain squad, 3-1. The Jets went 4-1 last week including a win earlier in the week. The Jets have a HUGE series this weekend with rival, NOC Tonkawa.

After spending the entire season in the top 3, OK Wesleyan (NAIA, 30-5) slips to #4. The Eagles went 1-2 last week giving up 25 runs in a conference loss to Tabor. OKWU has hit a lull recently going 4-3 in their last 7 games.

UCO (NCAA D2, 24-8) is the biggest mover this week as they jump to #5. The Bronchos are winners of 8 straight (longest current winning streak in Oklahoma), and are in 3rd place in the MIAA 1.5 games ahead of 4th and only 2 games out of 1st.

Carl Albert State (NJCAA D2, 24-7) stays at #6 after going 3-0 against U of Ozarks JV and TCS Post Grad.

Rogers State (NCAA D2, 19-10) moves up to #7 after going 2-2 last week, but winning their weekend series.

Jumping 2 spots to #8 is Murray State (NJCAA D2, 21-13) after taking 3 of 4 against Western. The Aggies and Carl Albert State meet this weekend in another BIG matchup in NJCAA Div 2.

Reentering the poll this week is Southwestern Christian (NAIA, 25-11) at #9. The Eagles picked up an enormous series win over MACU last week to bump them into a tie for 3rd in the SAC with USAO.

MACU (NAIA, 26-11) drops to #10 this week after that series loss to the Eagles. The Evangels drop out of 1st place in the SAC, but they are only 1 game out of 1st place and they are 3 clear of SCU and USAO.

Dropped Out

  • USAO (PR 9): Went 2-2 last week losing 2 of 3 to College of the Ozarks

Others Considered (in alphabetical order)

  • Connors State (NJCAA D1)
  • NWOSU (NCAA D2)
