Sometimes the starts align and you get something that looks too good to be true. That is what we get this Thursday-Saturday in Chickasha as the annual Chickasha Festival has several teams that are considered state championship contenders playing.
Ft Cobb-Broxton (B), Marlow (3A), Blanchard (4A), Chickasha (4A), Newcastle (4A), Duncan (5A), and Elgin (5A) are all contenders to not only make the state tournament, but to contend for the championship. Blanchard, Chickasha, Marlow, and Newcastle all were in the 4A state tournament last year with Marlow taking the title – although Marlow is now in 3A this year. FCB has won the last 5 combined Fall/Spring Class B state titles. Both Duncan and Elgin made the 5A state bracket last year with Duncan finishing runner up.
*This is to not take away from El Reno who currently sits at 7-0 in Class 5A.
Also, taking a look at the latest SSBR Sweet Sixteen, we have 3 teams in the top 6 of the rankings – Newcastle (1), Blanchard (5), and Elgin (6)
Let’s take a look at some of the best matchups.
SSBR #5 Blanchard vs Ft Cobb-Broxton, Thurs 10:00 a.m.
What a way to start the event.
FCB is the class of Class B once again, and they are coming off an impressive win over Class B’s #2 team, Calumet on Monday. Eli Willits is a consensus top 15 MLB Draft eligible prospect for this summer’s draft.
Blanchard has been one of the most consistent teams in any class the last 10 years with state titles in 2015, 2019, 2022. They were also runners up in 2023 and 2024. The Lions went 3-1 at the Tate Aggie Classic in Pensacola, FL last week and already have a win over Chickasha.
Duncan vs SSBR #1 Newcastle, Thurs 7:00 p.m.
What a game to end the first day.
Duncan was the state runner up in 5A last year. They are 12-2 on the season and are a state championship contender in 5A once again. Brisco Smith and Eli Ramirez are 2 of the top players in the state.
Newcastle comes into this game at 11-1 on the season. The Racers suffered their first loss of 2025 last week at Tuttle in a 2-1 ball game. Newcastle does sport the best group of wins of any team in the state with victories over Edmond Santa Fe, Owasso, Broken Arrow, and Elgin so far.
Chickasha vs SSBR #1 Newcastle, Fri 12:15 p.m.
Chickasha comes into the event with a 9-3 record. Make no mistakes about it, the Chicks are a legit state championship contender. Two of their three losses are to Mount St Mary (another 4A contender) and Blanchard. Layton Bryan is one of the best pitchers in the state and his teammate, Tyson Owens has already thrown a no hitter this season.
Ft Cobb-Broxton vs #6 Elgin, Fri 2:30 p.m.
Elgin comes into this event looking like one of the elite teams in 5A. Their loss was to #1 Newcastle, but the Owls did give then SSBR #5 Collinsville their first loss of the season in the BSN Spring Break Festival. Jaxon Southerland is a top prospect in the state of Oklahoma.
Duncan vs Marlow, Fri 4:45 p.m.
Duncan, once again, looks to be a factor in 5A. They are currently 10-2 on the year with their losses to Carl Albert and an upstart CCS team. They have beaten 6A’s Moore and 3x Class 3A State Champ, Washington.
Marlow won the 4A State Title last year, but they were moved back down to 3A this year. The Outlaws got a later start on the season this year. They are currently 6-3, but their 3 losses are to SSBR #8 Elk City, SSBR #3 Dewar, and a team from Texas.
Blanchard vs Duncan, Sat 2:30 p.m.
Marlow vs Ft Cobb, Sat 7:00 p.m.
