Last week (Spring Break) we focused on three in-state tournaments: Southeast Shootout, BSN Spring Break Festival (Tuttle), and Edmond Spring Break Festival.

As you (or may not) know, several teams from the Sooner State choose to head out of state to play baseball and give their players a unique experience. The last 2 years, we’ve provided score updates of 2 of those: Tate Aggie Classic in Pensacola, FL and the Gulf Shores Classic.

This year we chose not to do that as our hands were full with the 3 events here in Oklahoma.

We still want to provide you with how those squads did, so let’s take a look below.

Dan Giannini Hawk Classic (Florida)

Owasso was the only team from Oklahoma to play in this event and they went 3-0 in the tournament to win the championship. The won the title game, 13-0. (Incidentally, the Rams left the week before and played 3 non tournament games vs Florida schools. Owasso went 6-0 on the trip.

Tate Aggie Classic (Pensacole, FL)

A total of 7 Oklahoma squads participated in this event hosted by Tate High School in Pensacola. Bixby and Blanchard led the way for the Sooner State contingent as the Spartans took home 3rd place.

  • Bixby: 3-1
  • Blanchard: 3-1
  • Noble: 2-2 (beat Booker T Washington)
  • Yukon: 2-2
  • Broken Arrow : 1-3
  • Sand Springs: 1-3
  • Booker T Washington: 0-4

Gulf Shores Classic – Week 2

This is the big one. Of the 36 teams that played in the 2nd week of the Gulf Shores Classic, 17 of them were from Oklahoma. As you can imagine, there were several teams from the Sooner State that had games against each other.

  • Calera: 4-1 (semifinalist; wins over Norman North and Salina)
  • Dale: 3-1
  • Rattan: 3-1 (wins over Norman North and Hilldale)
  • Bartlesville: 2-2
  • Hilldale: 2-2
  • Lincoln Christian: 2-2 (win over Christian Heritage)
  • Muskogee: 2-2 (win over PC North)
  • Norman North: 2-2 (win over Muskogee)
  • Salina: 2-2
  • Sapulpa: 2-2
  • Tushka: 2-2 (wins over Sapulpa and PC North)
  • Wright City: 2-2
  • Metro Christian: 1-3 (win over Christian Heritage)
  • Pryor: 1-3 (win over Wright City)
  • Victory Christian: 1-3
  • Christian Heritage: 0-4
  • Putnam City: 0-4

Best of the West (Arizona)

Another area that teams have headed over past Spring Breaks is the desert. Oklahoma saw 4 schools play in the Best of the West event.

  • Silo: 2-2-1
  • Holland Hall: 1-3
  • Putnam City: 0-4
  • Santa Fe South: 0-4

Coach Bob Invitational (Phoenix, AZ)

The Coach Bob Invitational is an event that had more teams play in it than even the Gulf Shorts Classic. Several teams from around the country play in it with most of them from Arizona, California, Colorado, and Oregon.

Mount St Mary was the only team from Oklahoma to play and they went 1-3.
