We’ve got several big series happening across the Oklahoma college baseball landscape this weekend. OU finally plays their first ever SEC series while OSU and ORU open play in the Big 12 and Summit League respectively. The GAC Oklahoma schools return to playing the Arkansas schools this weekend. UCO hosts MIAA 1st place Ft Hays State. We’ve got 2 intrastate matchups in the SAC including the OCU/USAO rivalry. The JUCO D1 schools head into their 3rd week of play.

NCAA D1

Oklahoma at South Carolina

Welp, it is finally here. The Oklahoma Sooners start their SEC schedule this weekend with a series at South Carolina. The Sooners come into this series ranked 12 in the D1 Baseball poll and with a record of 14-1. The Gamecocks come in with a record of 15-3 with their 3 losses all against in state rival, Clemson. You’d think with that record and being an SEC school, USC would be ranked, but they aren’t probably due to the level of teams they’ve played other than Clemson – cupcake city.

While South Carolina may not have the resume that OU does so far for 2025, that doesn’t mean it will be easy going for the Sooners. The Gamecocks are historically a good program winning 2 nattys in 2010 and 2011 and being a consistent fixture in the NCAA Tournament even as recently as last year. Plus playing on the road in the SEC will be much different and more hostile than anything OU saw in the Big 12 other than Stillwater.

Also, look for Sunday’s game to get shifted and moved to a double header on Saturday due to weather.

Oklahoma State vs West Virginia

OSU opens Big 12 play hosting West Virginia this weekend. The Pokes have been up and down winning a few games against top level opponents and losing a few to teams they shouldn’t – Illinois State comes to mind. The Mountaineers are 15-1 on the season, but like South Carolina, they’ve played the “Sisters of the Poor” mostly. Their one loss on the season was to Kennesaw State who is probably the toughest opponent they’ve played – with a record of 7-11.

The Pokes should be the best team in the Big 12 this year. While OSU has struggled, no other team in the Big 12 has really stepped up and taken the lead. With OU and Texas no longer in the conference, WVU is the only Big 12 team ranked in either the D1Baseball or USA Today Coaches Poll (#24). A series win for OSU or, better yet, a sweep should set the tone they are the bullies in the Big 12.

Oral Roberts vs North Dakota State

ORU is sitting quietly at 11-4 on the season. They are the only team in the Summit League with a winning record as Omaha is closest at 6-6. NDSU comes in at 2-11. For the foreseeable future, I will say this about ORU in Summit League play – they should dominate each series and sweep almost all of them. Don’t be surprised to see ORU have no more than 5 losses in conference this season.

NCAA D2

Great American Conference

After 2 weeks of playing each other, the Oklahoma schools are back playing the Arkansas schools for the next 2 weeks.

After 4 weeks of play, Oklahoma Baptist is in a tie for 2nd with Southern Arkansas and Arkansas Monticello. The Bison went 1-2 vs SAU and 2-1 vs AMU. They host Henderson State this weekend. It is imperative for the Bison to win this series to keep pace at the top of the standings.

Southeastern OK State heads to Arkansas Tech this weekend with a 7-5 GAC record. The Savage Storm are 9-13 overall so they find something on the weekend in GAC play and they’ll need to keep it up if they want to make the postseason tournament.

Speaking of SAU and AMU, NWOSU and SWOSU host those schools respectively. Both the Rangers and Bulldogs can get back in the top 8 of the conference with good weekends against those schools.

MIAA

UCO has had 2 impressive series wins the last 2 weekends sweeping Emporia State and beating Pittsburg State 2-1. They play league leading Fort Hays State in Edmond. The Bronchos are 2 games behind the Tigers at 6-3 so if they sweep FHSU, they would be ahead of them.

Rogers State is tied for the league lead in the loss column with 1 (along with Central Missouri and FHSU), but they’ve played 3 less games. The Hillcats are at Emporia State this weekend. The Hornets are off to a 1-5 start in MIAA play so RSU has a chance to pad their conference record this weekend.

Northeastern State is tied for 5th with Washburn at 5-4 in conference play. The Riverhawks host the Ichabods this weekend in Tahlequah.

NAIA

Sooner Athletic Conference

Stop us if you’ve heard this before. Teams from Oklahoma are leading the SAC again. Only once in the last 4 seasons has a team not from the Sooner State finished in the top 2 of the regular season. In 2025, we have 3 Oklahoma teams tied for 1st place after 3 weeks – MACU, Southwestern Christian, and USAO. They are all at 7-2, two games ahead of 5th place Nelson

USAO travels to play an “old friend” in OCU this weekend. They have a single game Thursday night followed by a double header on Saturday. These 2 teams have dominated the league. Going back to 2017 (the farthest the SAC website goes), each of these teams have finished no worse than 3rd with only 3 times one of them wasn’t 1st or 2nd.

This year is a little different. USAO is still at the top of the league through 3 weekends, but OCU is in familiar territory in the middle of the SAC standings. Hosting the series this year is an advantage as the Stars look to get back into the top half of the league. For USAO, they have played solid baseball this year, but they finally got their 1st series sweep last weekend over OPSU. Can the Drovers keep that momentum going?

The other intrastate matchup is MACU hosting OPSU. The Evangels are coming off their first SAC series loss in 2 seasons last weekend. OPSU is struggling under first year head coach, Jared Mayeda. Can MACU “keep pace” with USAO in sweeping OPSU?

Southwestern Christian started the conference season beating OCU, 2-1. They’ve played the bottom teams of the league the last 2 weekend in College of the Ozarks and Central Christian. This week they host Wayland Baptist who won the series over MACU, 2-1, last weekend.

KCAC

Oklahoma Wesleyan is tied for 1st in the KCAC with Ottawa at 11-2. The Eagles have won 4 straight including a 29 run output at Tabor on Monday. In the ever competitive KCAC, it almost feels like the Eagles need to sweep the middle of the pack to lower teams like Avila where they play this weekend.
