We’ve got a taste of the high school season with some small schools taking the field last week and several Class 3A-6A squads playing on Saturday.

The season gets in full swing this week with almost every team taking the field (some small schools still have basketball players not joining their baseball teams yet).

SSBR will take a look at the week ahead and pick five games that aren’t part of a district series or a festival/tournament that pique our interest. These will be our “Games of the Week.” When these games go final, we will specifically provide a score and stats from the game on our social media accounts.

Here is a breakdown of the games for Week 1 (March 3-8).

Owasso (6A, 0-0) at Stillwater Pioneers (6A, 1-0), Mon, March 3

What a tough way to start the season. Owasso goes on the road to play one of the top teams in the state in Stillwater who looked impressive in their win at Piedmont on Saturday. We really shouldn’t be surprised as long time Rams coach, Larry Turner (who is in his 42nd year as a head coach), always schedules tough.

While the Rams lost several top playes from 2024, we know they will reload and they are already considered a state tournament contender if not a state championship contender.

For their part, Stillwater is a state tournament/championship contender. The Pioneers return several key players including Ethan Holliday who is the top rated MLB Draft eligible prospect and his cousin, Brady Holliday, who is one of the top 2027 players in the state.

This is also a matchup of 2 teams who both lost in the Class 6A state semifinals in 2024.

Edmond Santa Fe (6A, 0-1) at Edmond Memorial (6A, 0-0), Tues Mar 4

What is better than an intracity matchup? How about an intracity matchup of 2 of the top teams in the state?

Santa Fe got tripped up by one of the top middle class teams in Newcastle on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t one of the favorites to take home the 6A crown. The Wolves have 2 of the top players in the state regardless of class in Carson Brumbaugh and Savions Sims. Brumbaugh is the #59 MLB Draft eligible prospect and Sims is the top 2026 player in the state. ESF has 6 players on the roster already committed to play at the next level.

Memorial comes into the 2025 season with as high hopes as any. They too have several players already committed to play at the next level. Cooper Kardokus is perhaps the highest touted player and he’s signed to play at Nebraska next year.

Duncan (5A, 1-0) at Carl Albert (5A, 0-0), Thurs Mar 6

Hate to call it a rematch because they aren’t the same rosters as last year, but these 2 teams met in the state championship game in 2024 which Carl Albert won 13-6.

Duncan got a win over 6A Moore on Saturday in which they were up 5-0 after 3 innings and cruised to a 6-2 victory.

Carl Albert has won 3 of the last 4 Class 5A state championships and they look to be a title contender again this year.

Tuttle (4A, 0-0) at Washington (3A, 0-1), Thurs Mar 6

This is a matchup of perhaps the top 2 middle class teams since 2021. Tuttle has made the state tournament each of the last 4 years winning the title in 2023. Washington has won the state title the last 3 consecutive years.

Tuttle did not play on Saturday, but by the time they get to Washington on Thursday they will have played 3 games.

Washington opened their season on Saturday hosting one of the 4A state title contenders, Mount St Mary, where they were shut out, 4-0.

Wright City (A-1, 0-0) at McAlester (5A, 0-1), Sat Mar 8

Wright City comes into the Spring season fresh off a Class A Fall State Championship. The Lumberjax was the most consistent team across any class in the fall as they lost only 1 game during the season against a Rattan squad they beat in the State Championship game. Wright City is jumping up several classes to play McAlester.

For their part, McAlester jumped up a class on Saturday on the road at Bixby. The Buffaloes suffered an 11-0 defeat at the hands of the 6A power. Don’t sleep on McAlester as they were one game short of the state tournament in 2024.
