When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best college team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR College Power 10.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the junior college level are better than say OSU or OU? No. But relative to their level, those JUCO teams could be having a better season than OSU or OU.

As a reminder, our first two Power 10 champs were ORU in 2023 after they made a run to the CWS and MACU in 2024 after their dominant SAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance as a #1 regional seed.

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the Week 4 rankings.

The Oklahoma Sooners (6-0) take over the top spot this week on the back of impressive wins over #2 Virginia and #7 Oregon State and going 3-0 at the Round Rock Classic. The Sooners won in all different ways this weekend: pitching, hitting, small ball, etc. OU is one of only 17 teams still undefeated after 2 weeks and the only team with 2 top 10 wins.

NOC Tonkawa (13-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten losing to Dallas Eastfield on Sunday. The Mavs allowed 6 runs in the bottom of the 8th losing 8-6.

OK Wesleyan (15-1) slips a spot to #3, but through no fault of their own. The Eagles went 2-0 sweeping their double header with St Mary on Sunday. The power of OU’s wins leaped frogged the Sooners over the Eagles. Also the margin between Tonkawa and OKWU is razor thin.

Jumping up 4 spots in the poll is last year’s champ, MACU (12-5). The Evangels have won 7 games in a row including a DH sweep over SAC newcomer, College of the Ozarks. MACU won those 2 games by a combined score of 23-1.

Coming in at #5 is the Southwestern Christian Eagles (14-4). The Eagles saw their 12 game winning streak snapped in their 1st game with OCU, but SCU came back and won the next 2 games to win the series over the Stars, 2-1.

Carl Albert State (9-2) moves up 3 spots after sweeping their DH with Connors State on Sunday. The Vikings handled the NJCAA D1 power beating them 6-1 and 10-3. Gage Elliot has been outstanding on the mound his last few starts. CASC plays Connors State at home today to wrap up their series.

Murray State (12-4) reenters the Power 10 this week at #7. The Aggies dropped out of the poll after the first rankings, but they’ve won 9 games in a row (the longest current streak in Oklahoma) and have won those games by an average score of 14-2. Austin Hailey has been on a tear for the Aggies: .553/.614/1.149 (OPS 1.763), 6 HR, 25 RBI.

Making their season debut in the Power 10 is Rogers State (8-1). The Hillcats have been impressive in their non conference season with their only loss a 1 run difference. RSU has one more game of their series with Colorado Christian today and a game at NWOSU on Wednesday before a 3 game set with NSU this weekend.

Seminole State (6-4) slides to #9 in the poll. Their record may not look like it, but as we’ve stated before, the Trojans have played the toughest schedule so far (until OU this past week). Before Sunday, the Trojans had 6 of their games against ranked opponents and Cloud County had received some votes. Still the 12-4 loss to Arkansas State Mountain Home on Sunday stings.

UCO (9-4) rounds out the poll at #10. The Bronchos got swept by Washburn on Sunday in their double header. UCO had won 9 straight before Sunday. They have game 3 with the Ichabods today so let’s hope they stop the bleeding.

Other receiving consideration (in alphabetical order): NOC Enid (8-4), Redlands CC (10-5), SWOSU (8-4), USAO (10-7).
