When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best college team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR College Power 10.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the junior college level are better than say OSU or OU? No. But relative to their level, those JUCO teams could be having a better season than OSU or OU.
As a reminder, our first two Power 10 champs were ORU in 2023 after they made a run to the CWS and MACU in 2024 after their dominant SAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance as a #1 regional seed.
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the Week 3 rankings.
With the NCAA D1 season starting this weekend, we now have all of the college teams in Oklahoma eligible for the Power 10. OU is the only one of the three to make their debut in th poll. OSU went 1-2 in Arlington while ORU went undefeated and just missed out.
NWOSU is the only team to drop out this week as they got swept in their opening GAC series vs Harding.

NOC Tonkawa remains #1 for the 3rd straight week. The Mavs played away from Tonkawa for the first time this season as they traveled to Melissa, TX and played Garden City CC and McCook twice. Tonk blanked a Garden City team (8-0) who was averaging over 8 runs/game. The Mavs also took 2 games from McCook by a combined score of 19-4.
The Mavs are schudled to go to the Metroplex again for three games at Dallas – Mountain View.
Oklahoma Wesleyan remains at #2 this week. OKWU had runs their winning streak to 12 before losing to Friends. However, the Eagles won the deciding game of their series to move their record to 13-1.
The Eagles are scheduled to host St Mary this weekend.
Seminole State played another top level team in Cloud County and for the 3rd straight weekend, the Trojans won 2 out of 3 games. The Trojans have arguably played the toughest schedule so far this season and they’re playing at a .667 winning percentage (that’s 108 wins in an MLB season).
OU comes in at #4 in their debut. We are bullish on the Sooners this year and while they didn’t play the toughest team out there in Lehigh, they did run rule the Hawks twice en route to three dominant wins in the cold. OU’s pitching staff is legit and if their offense can perform like they did this weekend, the Sooners will be one of the top teams in the SEC and nation.
OU plays in the Round Rock Classic this weekend including a game vs #2 Virginia. Before that, the Sooners play UT-Arlington on Wednesday at Globe Life Field.
UCO stays at #5 this week. The Bronchos swept Colorado Christian in a shortened three game series. UCO opens MIAA play this weekend at a tough Washburn squad.
Southwestern Christian moves up to #6 this week after a four game sweep vs Dallas Christian and Crowley’s Ridge. The Eagles have won twelve games in a row since dropping their first three games of the season.
SCU opens SAC play with a series at OCU this weekend.
With OU debuting and UCO and SCU going undefeated this past week, SWOSU slides a few spots to #7 after splitting a pair of games vs Arkansas Tech. The Bulldogs were scheduled for three against the Wonder Boys, but game 3 was cancelled due to weather.
Huge test for SWOSU this coming weekend as they travel away from Weatherford for the first time this season at a tough Harding squad.
Don’t look now, but MACU is starting to put things together. The Evangels have won 5 games in a row. They swept a DH vs York scoring 28 runs in the two games. The pitching for the Evangels is looking to come into form as well.
MACU travels to Point Lookout, MO for a series vs College of the Ozarks who is making their SAC debut.
Carl Albert State slides to #9 after splitting a DH at Panola. Game 3 vs Panola was cancelled due to weather. The Vikings have been impressive so far this season and they look to keep it going with a series vs Connors State scheduled for the weekend.
Western remains in the Power 10 after coming back to split their series at Coastal Bend. The Pioneers travel to El Paso to take on El Paso CC who was 7-1 heading into this past weekend.
Other teams considered (in alphabetical order): Connors State, Murray State College, Oklahoma Baptist, Oral Roberts, USAO
