When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best college team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR College Power 10.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the junior college level are better than say OSU or OU? No. But relative to their level, those JUCO teams could be having a better season than OSU or OU.

As a reminder, our first two Power 10 champs were ORU in 2023 after they made a run to the CWS and MACU in 2024 after their dominant SAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance as a #1 regional seed.

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the Week 2 rankings.

*Teams that haven’t played yet are not eligible for consideration.

Given that it is only the 2nd week of Power 10 rankings and the 3rd week of games, it is not surprising that we saw a lot of movement this week. We saw a total of 4 teams drop out of the rankings from week 1: Murray State College (2), USAO (6), SNU (9), and Cameron (10). That means 4 teams made their way into the rankings: Carl Albert State, UCO, Southwestern Christian, and Western OK State.

NOC Tonkawa (8-0, NJCAA D2) remains the top team in our Power 10. They have opened up the season 8-0 sweeping their opponents to the tune of a cumulative score of 124-8. They lead the nation in batting average, HR, RBI, and OPS. They are 2nd in extra base hits as well. Some have questioned the level of competition, but the Mavs came into the ’25 season with as high expectations as any and you can’t deny the fact they’ve done what they are supposed to do.

OK Wesleyan (11-0, NAIA) moves up to the 2nd spot this week after starting 11-0 on the season. After a pair of 3 game series sweeps at home, they went 5-0 on a 5 game road trip in Florida. You can read about what Newt Huntley said about the Eagles in his weekly “Five Things…” piece.

Seminole State (4-2, NJCAA D1) moves up 1 spot in this week’s poll. The Trojans have played 6 games against teams that are ranked in the top 20 in either the NJCAA or PBR JUCO polls. They won their opening series on the road at New Mexico JC, 2-1, and beat both San Jacinto (North) and Wabash Valley in the Tournament of Champions in Houston while losing to NMJC again.

SWOSU (7-1, NCAA D2) jumps 4 spots after going 4-0 this week. The Bulldogs swept the series vs Adams St allowing first year head coach, JR Head to win 7 of his first 8 games. SWOSU hosts Arkansas Tech in Weatherford this weekend in their first GAC series of the season.

UCO (6-2, NCAA D2) debuts in the Power 10 after going 4-0 in the Henderson State Invitational this past weekend. The Bronchos beat the host school before wins over Ouachita Baptist and back to back wins over Southern Arkansas. UCO is riding a 6 game win streak.

Western Oklahoma State (4-0, NJCAA D2) also makes their debut in the Power 10 after opening their season with a 4 game sweep over Colby CC. The Pioneers were dominant on the mound averaging only 2 runs allowed/game vs the Trojans.

The 3rd team making their debut this week is Southwestern Christian (8-3, NAIA). The Eagles have won 8 games in a row including 3-0 this weekend at the Battle in the Hills in Springfield, MO.

Carl Albert State (6-1, NJCAA D2) makes their first ever debut in the Power 10. The Vikings are riding a 5 game winning streak after winning their opening series with Rose State and sweeping SAU Tech (4-0) this past weekend.

NWOSU (7-2, NCAA D2) drops from 5 to 9 after going 4-1 this past week. It may seem harsh to drop a team 3 spots for losing 1 of 5 games in the week, but for the 2nd week in a row, the Rangers have failed to sweep a series by losing the last game to a lesser opponent. The Rangers open GAC play this coming weekend hosting 7-1, Harding.

MACU (8-5, NAIA) stays in the Power 10 following a 4-1 week. The Evangels traveled to Sterlington, LA to play in the Cajun Collision. After losing to #2 LSU Shreveport in their opening game, the Evangels had back to back shutouts including a one hit game by Brock Cordes who had a no hitter into the last inning before an infield hit spoiled it. MACU then scored 2 in the 7th to tie Park before scoring 5 in extras to beat Park to end the event.

Other teams considered (alphabetical order): Connors State (4-1, NJCAA D1), Oklahoma Baptist (5-2, NCAA D2), USAO (6-5, NAIA)
