It was a great week of baseball in the state of Oklahoma. We’ve got two teams on big heaters starting their season, some big time pitching performances last week, and some bounce back weeks for our D2 teams.
1. OK Wesleyan Completes Florida Trip Perfect
Oklahoma Wesleyan had a season in 2024 that saw them get back to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in 3 years. So far in the 2025 season, the Eagles are looking like a team that is on their way back to the national tournament for the 2nd year in a row.
After starting the season 6-0 with a pair of 3 game sweeps of Ecclesia and UHSP to start the season, the Eagles headed east for a 5 game road trip in Florida. Unlike last year where the Eagles went 2-5 in Florida, the Eagle came back this year after going 5-0 in Florida. Add that up and OKWU is 11-0 to start the season.
Javier Marcial is leading the team in OPS (1.455), HR (4), RBI (18), and SB (5).
The Eagles are scheduled to begin conference play next weekend as they travel to Wichita to play Friends Univ.
2. NOC Tonkawa Dominates Their Way to 8-0
Regardless of level, no team in the Sooner State has been more dominant in the start of the season than the Mavericks. Through their opening two series, the Mavs are 8-0 and have beaten their opponents by an average score of 15.5 – 1. (Yes, one could argue the level of competition the Mavs have played, but isn’t that what you’re supposed to do when you play those teams?)
Tonkawa has slashed .425/.548/.785 with 17 HRs. They lead the country in avg, HR, RBI (112), and are 2nd in XBH (43).
3. Pitching Performances

4. D2 Bounce Back
We had three teams in the NCAA D2 ranks have perfect weeks last week.
After only winning against other teams from Oklahoma in the Edmond First Pitch Classic the first weekend, both UCO and OBU were impressive this past weekend as the both went 4-0.
UCO travelled to Arkansas to play in the Henderson State Invitational. There they beat the host school in the opener, Ouachita Baptist in the 2nd game, and Southern Arkansas in games 3 and 4 while averaging just under 10 runs/game.
OBU hosted Metro State-Denver in a 4 game series on Bison Hill. The Bison run ruled the Roadrunners twice and outscored MSDU 38-13.
Also going 4-0 on the weekend was SWOSU. The Bulldogs hosted Adams State in Weatherford with 2 DHs on Friday and Saturday. SWOSU won an extra inning game, 2 – 2 run games, and a 10-3 win over the Grizzlies.
5. Milestones
The Sooner State saw two coaching milestones this week.
OK Wesleyan head coach, Kirk Kelley, collected the 900th win of his head coaching career.
Seminole State head coach, Mack Chambers earned the 200th win of his career.
