The Great American Conference released their 2025 poll and let’s just say they really like the Arkansas schools.

The first 5 spots in the poll went to schools on the eastern side of the Oklahoma/Arkansas border with 2024 GAC champs, Arkansas-Monticello taking home first place. The Boll Weevils received 6 of the 12 1st place votes, 2 more than 2nd place Harding. Arkansas Tech, Southern Arkansas, and Henderson State round out the top 5.

Northwestern Oklahoma St is the highest ranked team from Oklahoma as they come in at 6th place immediately followed by Oklahoma Baptist.

SWOSU, Southeastern OK St, East Central, and Southern Nazarene come in 9th through 12th respectively.

NWOSU and OBU place 6th and 8th in 2024 qualifying for GAC Tournament.

Reaction

Personally, I think the conference is underrating the Rangers. The boys from Alva return a ton of offensive production that was 3rd in the GAC in batting average and home runs, and 2nd in slugging. They will put a lot of runs on the board. If their pitching comes around and they can figure out how to win on the road more consistently, they can get in a position to host the first round of the GAC Tournament.

The Bison are also being under valued. OBU may have lost the 2024 GAC Player of the Year, but they have the 2023 GAC Player of the Year, DJ Van Atten, transferring in. They may not have the big sluggers that they’ve had in the past, but look for the Bison to win games being creative on offense and they’ve improved their pitching staff going into 2025.
