This past Spring we started recognizing players and pitchers of small colleges and JUCOs weekly.

This Fall we wanted to extend that recognitions to our talented high school players here in the Sooner State as well.

Each week we send out nomination forms to the coaches to complete and we will choose a position player and pitcher from each class (2A, A, B) for the weekly award. The winners will receive something from SSBR for their achievement and each player/pitcher nominated will be listed in our weekly post.

Here are our winners for Week 9 (9/16-9/21).

Class 2A

Player of the Week

Jackson Harris, Dale Pirates

Harris has been one of the most consistent players on one of the most consistent teams this year. Usually hitting in the 2 hole, Jackson does a little bit of everything for the Pirates. He can hit for average, hit for power, drive in runs when runners are on base, and he’s a threat to swipe a bag or two when he is on base. He’s even started to pitch this season with success.

His stats this week show the well rounded player his is.

Harris’ line: (4 games) .429 (6-14), .529 OBP, 1.172 OPS, HR, 2B, 7 RBI, 2 BB, 6 SB

Other nominees:

  • Landen Langley, Silo Rebels
  • Isaac Olivas, Santa Fe South Saints
  • Shooter Boatright, Tushka

Pitcher of the Week

Brock Brittain, Latta Panthers

Rarely do we see this many innings pitched in one week, but the Latta Panthers needed every one them from Brock Brittain.

Brittain started for the Panthers on Monday, 9/16, against Colbert where he threw a complete game, 7 inning shutout. On Saturday, 9/21, Brittain got the call again as he went 8.1 innings in an extra inning win over Leedey. In both games, Brittain collected 10 strikeouts and allowed only 1 earned run for an ERA of 0.60 on the week.

Brittain’s line: G/GS 2, 2-0, 15.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, ER, 20 K, 5 BB

Other nominees:

  • Landon Langley, Silo Rebels
  • Juan Dominguez, Santa Fe South Saints
  • Riglee Sheppard, Dale Pirates
  • Walt Werr, Tushka Tigers

Class A

Player of the Week

Caleb Warner, Hydro-Eakly Bobcats

In a week that saw Hyrdro-Eakly go .500, Cale Warner did just about all he could do to help the Bobcats. Warner had one of the best weeks we’ve seen so far this season as not only were pitchers almost unable to get him out, Warner did major damage with 8 extra base hits.

Warner’s OPS of 2.471 on the week is the highest we’ve seen this week as he had 4 bombs and 4 doubles in his 11 total hits.

Warner’s line: (4 games) .688 (11-16), .783 OBP, 1.688 SLG (2.471 OPS), 4 HR, 4 2B, 12 RBI, 7 BB, 9 R

Other nominees:

  • Teague Farris, Canute Trojans
  • Nathan Mahan, Fletcher Wildcats
  • Kooper Johnson, Rattan Rams
  • Orson Jubara, Arapaho-Butler Indians

Pitcher of the Week

Riley Lile, Sterling Tigers

Riley Lile put up one of the best single game performances of the season this past Friday. Against Okarche and opposite of their ace, Easton Roby, Lile was almost untouchable. He went a complete game 7 innings in shutting out the Warrior. Along the way, Lile gave up only 2 hits and sent down 13 Warrior batters against no walks.

Lile’s line: G/GS 2, 1-1, CG, SO, 10 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 18 K, 3 BB

Other nominees:

  • Reed Kauk, Red Oak Eagles

Class B

Player of the Week

Brendon Voss, Calumet Chieftains

This award has gone to Calumet two other times this season and it goes back a third this week. This time Brendon Voss is the recipient.

In the Chieftains’ five games this week, Voss led the team offensively as he had an OPS of 1.365 and drove in 7 runs. He knocked in 3 runs against surging Ripley on Friday.

Voss’ line: (5 games) .467 (7-15), .565 OBP, .800 SLG, HR, 2 2B, 7 RBI, 2 BB

Other nominees:

  • Trenton Wimberly, Stuart Hornets
  • Dalton Taylor, Big Pasture Rangers

Pitcher of the Week

Lane Tinsley, Big Pasture Rangers

Tinsley has been nominated more than once this year and each time another pitcher had a razor thin edge. Not this week.

Against Class A, Fletcher on Friday, Tinsley was awesome. Tinsley went 7 complete allowing only 2 hits against 1 run. He also averaged just under 2 K/inning with 13 total.

Tinsley’s line: G/GS 1, 1-0, 7 IP, 2 H, ER, 13 K, 3 BB

Other nominees:

  • Cody Cook, Stuart Hornets
  • Talon Arnold, Calumet Chieftains
