As we’ve stated on other articles coming into this week, we are in the final full week of the regular season for Classes A & B. Districts start next week, and while some teams will play games next week outside of Districts, it won’t be a full week of games otherwise.
That is why these next two weeks of OSSAA Rankings are important. After Districts in A & B are played, the assignments for Class A & B Regionals and the pairings for the “Super” Regionals in 2A will be made based on the OSSAA rankings.
Last week’s rankings were better in a couple of areas: 1) there was more participation by the coaches in voting, and 2) there weren’t as many “shenanigans” going on as the weeks before.
In the spirit of transparency, let’s take a look at who I think are the top 10 teams in each class right now.

Let’s break down what we’ve got this week.
Class 2A

- Finally Silo gets all 16 1st place votes. It’s funny that it comes off a week where they had their first loss on the season.
- Byng is in 3rd this week jumping Oktaha to get there.
- Here is the problem, I can’t get with Oktaha being in 4th. Especially with Tushka beating them head to head twice in 8 days with the most recent one being on Saturday. I am a big fan of Coach Rodden and the Tigers, but I’ve got to be honest, Oktaha should be no higher than #6 right now. Yes, the Tigers have some talent in the lineup, but based on resume, both Calera and Tushka deserve the higher ranking.
- Having Oktaha at #4 is significant because if this stays that means the Tigers will host a Regional.
Class A

- First thing that jumps out is only 23 of the 32 coaches in Class A voted. I really hope that changes for next week as the players deserve an accurate assessment from the majority of the coaches.
- Even with fewer coaches voting, Wright City widened the gap in 1st place votes – although I can’t understand anyone voting for anyone else #1 than the Jax (Rattan and Canute are the next closest with 4 losses and Wright City beat Rattan head to head).
- The biggest movers this week were Wister moving from 6 to 4 (after going 2-2 last week) and Arapaho-Butler from 4 down to 7).
- I don’t find the fact that Wister is #4 too egregious since I have them at #5, but I guess I’m more high on Canute than others.
- In another case of not paying attention, Ripley is behind AmPo the week after Ripley beat (shutout) AmPo head to head this past weekend.
Class B

- I moved Ft Cobb-Broxton up to #1 this week based on the fact they went 4-1 with the toughest weekly schedule we’ve seen this season. They had wins over Okarche, Dale, Tushka, and previously unbeaten Silo. Their lone loss was a walk off to Wright City.
- Having said that, I’m ok with the coaches still voting Calumet #1 because they have a great resume and beat FCB head to head the one time they played. These 2 teams will be on the opposite side of any bracket so it will work out.
- I’m still baffled how Boswell isn’t in the #4 spot and in position to host a Regional. I’m not saying it should be locked in, but they should be #4 at this point.
- I can’t go without saying the fact that Mulhall-Orlando received a 1st place vote it more than egregious. No offense to the Panthers’ players, but there is no way anyone thinks that M.O. should be the #1 team. They are ranked #12 while getting all those 1st place points. It is stuff like this that brings the validity of OSSAA Rankings into question.
