This past Spring we started recognizing players and pitchers of small colleges and JUCOs weekly.

This Fall we wanted to extend that recognitions to our talented high school players here in the Sooner State as well.

Each week we send out nomination forms to the coaches to complete and we will choose a position player and pitcher from each class (2A, A, B) for the weekly award. The winners will receive something from SSBR for their achievement and each player/pitcher nominated will be listed in our weekly post.

Here are our winners for Week 5 (9/9-9/14).

Class 2A

Player of the Week

Zack Brame, Tushka Tigers

We had three nominees for the Player of the Week award in Class 2A and the margin between all three of them was razor thin. However, Zack Brame of Tushka takes home the award this week.

In a week that saw Tushka go 4-1 including a 2-1 record in the tough Silo Tournament, Brame led the way for the Tigers. Hitting out of the 5 hole, Brame provided the production that is expected out of that spot as he had an OPS of 1.968.

Brame’s line: G 5, .667 AVG (6-9), .786 OBP, 1.182 SLG, 2 HR, 2B, 8 RBI, 4 BB

Other nominees:

  • Easton Edmonson, Dale Pirates
  • Drew Cabrera, Santa Fe South

Pitcher of the Week

Braden Hill, Silo Rebels

In a week that saw Silo lose their first game to a tough Ft Cobb-Broxton team, Braden Hill kept the Rebels from losing more.

Hill saw action on the bump in two games this past week with one of them a start. In their game against Byng, Hill came in the game in the 4th inning and did not allow a run the rest of the way. This allowed the Rebels to come back and win the game in the 7th inning. In Silo’s first round matchup against Red Oak in the Silo Tournament, Hill went 7 complete innings to give their staff all the other arms needed for the rest of the weekend.

Hill’s line: G 2, GS 1, 2-0, CG, 10 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 4 BB

Other nominees:

  • Jackson Harris, Dale Pirates
  • Jaxon Gregory, Tushka Tigers

Class A

Player of the Week

Jake Beutler, Canute Trojans

Jake Beutler of Canute is one of our first repeat winners this season. The Trojans are on a 10 game heater right now and Beutler is a big reason why.

Beutler led the Trojans to a 5-0 record this past week. The 2 hole hitters does more than a “traditional” 2 hole. Of his 10 hits this past week, half of them were extra base hits. On top of that, Beutler took advantage when he had runners on base ahead of him knocking in 11 runners on the week.

On top of his numbers at the plate, Beutler was outstanding on the mound as he threw 5 innings giving up only 2 H while striking out 10 against only 1 walk.

Beutler’s line: G 5, .667 (10-15), .706 OBP, 1.906 OPS, 2 2B, 3 3B, 11 RBI

Other nominees:

  • Rayner Beene, Rattan Rams
  • Garret Ray, Ninnekah Owls
  • Cashton McIntire, Ripley Warriors

Pitcher of the Week

Rayner Beene, Wright City Lumberjax

Wright City has not lost a game since the first weekend the season when they lost to Okarche at Seminole State College. Rayner Beene is a HUGE reason why. He is one of the best lead off hitters currently and provides excellent defense at shortstop.

However, his pitching performance this past week is what garners his first weekly award. Beene had 3 appearances this past week with one of them a start. After a dominant start against Colbert earlier in the week, Beene had 1.1 IP of scoreless relief against Wister in the Silo Tournament semifinals to earn the save. In the finals of the Silo Tournament against a hot Ft Cobb-Broxton team, Beene came in late in the game for 1.2 scoreless innings pitched to earn the win and give the Jax the tournament championship.

Beene’s line: G 3, GS 1, 2-0, SV, 8.1 IP, 6 H, R, 0 ER, 16 K, 5 BB

Other nominees:

  • Kaden McCollum, Ripley Warriors
  • Garrett Ray, Ninnekah Owls

Class B

Player AND Pitcher of the Week

Kaleb Thiessen, Calumet Chieftains

Not only is Kaleb Thiessen our first repeat Pitcher of the Week, he is our first double winner of the season.

Thiessen was a menace at the plate this past week collecting 8 hits with 4 of them being the extra base variety (2 HR, 2B, 3B). On top of that, he knocked in 10 runs.

On the mound, Thiessen got the start in their 3rd place game of the AmPo/Okarche Tournament. After dropping a 12 inning game to Okarche in the semis, the Chieftains faced AmPo for 3rd place and Calumet got what they needed out of Thiessen on the mound. Thiessen did not allow a run against only 2 hits in a 2-0 shutout of the Panthers.

Thiessen’s line: G/GS 1, 1-0, CG, SO, 7 IP, 2 H, 5 K, 3 BB

Other Player of the Week nominees:

  • Nolan Stewart, Stuart Hornets
  • Lane Tinsley, Big Pasture
  • Brycen Allen, Mill Creek

Other Pitcher of the Week nominees

  • Cash Wafford, Tupelo Tigers
  • Isaac Tsonetokoy, Ft Cobb-Broxton Mustangs
  • Dalton Talyor, Big Pasture
  • Gavin Casey, Sentinel Bulldogs
  • Dallin Whitaker, Stuart Hornets
