The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.

Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.

One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and use a panel of voteres to do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.

*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall, teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly.

We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)

In the Spring we do a “Dominant Dozen” and last Fall we did a “Super Six.” This season we are doing an “Elite Eight” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall

As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.

Teams Dropping Out

  • Byng Pirates (PR: 7): Went 2-2 last week losing to Silo and Ripley; Beat Union City and Binger-Oney

Teams Receiving Votes

  • Ripley Warriors (A), 18-6: Went 5-0 on the week winning the AmPo/Okarche Tournament. They beat Byng, AmPo, and Okarche winning the last two games by a 1-0 score in each.

8. Canute Trojans (A), 20-4

  • Prev rank: T8
  • Last week: 5-0

Canute currently has the 2nd longest winning streak in the state at 10 including going 5-0 last week. The Trojans beat Arapaho-Butler on Tuesday, 13-2. They also won the Flatland Fall Classic in Woodward beating Dover, Lomega, and Vici along the way.

This week: Mon vs Blair & Granite; Thur-Sat at Hammon Tournament

7. Dale Pirates (2A), 16-5

  • Prev rank: 5
  • Last week: 4-1

The Pirates remain in the Elite Eight for the 5th consecutive week (one of only 3 teams to do so). Their lone loss last week was a 7-2 loss at Ft Cobb-Broxton. Their 4 wins came against Wellston, Asher, Battiest, and Navajo.

Dale’s schedule really picks up again this week.

This week: Mon vs Okarche; Tues at Oktaha; Fri: vs AmPo and Arapaho-Butler (AmPo East/West Classic)

6. Okarche Warriors (A), 14-4

  • Prev rank: 3
  • Last week: 2-2

Okarche slides a little bit this week with the two losses. They get the nod over Dale based on their win over the Pirates earlier this season (that’ll be settled on Monday in the return game).

The Warriors did win a marathon, 12 inning game over Calumet in the AmPo/Okarche Tournament.

This week: Mon at Dale; Thurs vs Binger-Oney; Fri vs Sterling; Sat vs Roff

T4. Calumet Chieftains (B), 17-3

  • Prev rank: 4
  • Last week: 4-1

The Chieftains were a 12 inning game away from having a perfect week last week. Okarche beat them in the AmPo/Okarche Tournament on the Warriors home field. Otherwise it was a perfect week beating Union City, Sentinel, Binger-Oney, and AmPo along the way.

This week: Mon vs Lookeba-Sickles; Tues vs Arapaho-Butler; Thur-Sat at Ripley Tournament

T4. Rattan Rams (A), 16-4

  • Prev rank: T8
  • Last week: 5-0

The 0-3 week the Rams had two weeks ago seem like a distant memory. Rattan has gone 7-0 since then including a 5-0 week this past week.

The Rams won the Calera Tournament beatin Vanoss, Boswell, and the host school, Calera, along the way. Rattan outscored their 3 opponents by a combined score of 35-5 including a 14-3 score in the finals after scoring 13 unanswered runs.

This week: Mon at Boswell; Tues at Red Oak; Thurs-Sat hosting the Rattan Fall Classic

3. Ft Cobb-Broxton Mustangs (B), 19-5

  • Prev rank: 6
  • Last week: 4-1

FCB had one of the toughest weeks scheduled that you’ll ever see last week. They hosted Okarche and Dale on Monday and Tuesday respectively before heading to the Silo Tournament Thursday-Saturday where they faced Tushka, Silo, and Wright City.

After beating previously unbeaten, Silo, 2-1 in the semis, the Mustangs were 1 run away from a perfect week (and most likely the #1 spot) getting walked off by Wright City in the Silo Tournament finals.

Usually when a team loses a game, it is hard for them to move up in the rankings, but when their wins are Okarche, Dale, Tushka, and Silo, those overcome that one loss.

This week: Mon vs Sterling; Tues at Sentinel; Fri: vs Leedey and Latta (AmPo East/West Festival)

2. Silo Rebels (2A), 17-1

  • Prev week: 1
  • Last week: 4-1

It took almost 5 weeks, but the last unbeaten team in Oklahoma fell. The Rebels lost to Ft Cobb-Broxton in the semifinals of their tournament, 2-1. Silo had a nice bounce back in the 3rd place game as they beat Wister 7-4.

The rest of the week saw the Rebels win close games to Byng and Asher on Monday and Tuesday.

The Mustangs did beat Silo, but the Rebels get the nod over FCB based on the overall resume (1 loss to 5) and the loss was only by 1 run.

This week: Mon vs Calera; Tues vs Stuart; Thur-Sat at Rattan Fall Classic

1. Wright City Lumberjax (A), 19-1

  • Prev week: 2
  • Last week: 5-0

Wright City ascends to the number 1 spot riding a 16 game winning streak including a 5-0 week last week as well as a Silo Tournament championship.

The Jax beat a good Wister team in the semis before walking it off against Ft Cobb-Broxton in the finals on a Kase Lindly base hit. The Mustangs had just beaten previously undefeated Silo the day before.

Wright City has another big week ahead.

This week: Mon vs Caney; Tues vs AmPo (at Asher); Thurs-Sat at Rattan Fall Classic
