The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.

Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.

One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and use a panel of voteres to do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.

*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall, teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly.

We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)

In the Spring we do a “Dominant Dozen” and last Fall we did a “Super Six.” This season we are doing an “Elite Eight” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall

As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.

Teams That Dropped Out

  • Arapaho-Butler Indians (PR 6): Went 1-2; Beat Leedey, Lost to AmPo, Okarche

T8. Rattan Rams (A, 11-4)

  • Prev rank: NR
  • Last week: 2-0

Rattan returns to the “Eight” after going 2-0 last week. After going 0-3 the week before, the Rams had a light week with only 2 games, but they did what they needed to do to regain their footing. The Rams had a run rule win over Class B #3 Stuart on Tuesday before having a comfortable win over Battiest on Friday.

This week: Mon vs Ft Towson; Tues at Howe; Thur-Sat at Calera Tournament

T8. Canute Trojans (A, 14-4)

  • Prev rank: NR
  • Last week: 5-0

Canute enters the Elite Eight for the first time this season. The Trojans had perhaps the best week of any team last week going 5-0 including a shutout win over Ft Cobb-Broxton.

Dillon Lucas shut down the potent Mustangs offense going a 7 inning complete game and giving up only 2 hits.

This week: Mon at Hydro-Eakly; Tues vs Arapaho-Butler; Thurs-Sat at Flatland Fall Classic

7. Byng Pirates (2A, 11-3)

  • Prev rank: 8
  • Last week: 2-1

Byng stays in the Elite Eight even though they lost a game. However, with A-B dropping out and the Pirates having had a consistent season, Byng staying in the “Eight” is more than fair.

The Pirates’ loss last week came to #2 Wright City on the road in which they gave up 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning and only 2 hits the entire game and losing 2-0.

Byng has yet to have a “signature win,” but their 11 wins have been by an average of over 5 runs. Their 3 losses (Calera, Calumet, Wright City) has come by a total of 4 runs.

This week: Mon vs SSBR #1 Silo; Thurs-Sat at AmPo/Okarche Tournament

6. Ft Cobb-Broxton (B, 15-4)

  • Prev rank: 4
  • Last week: 4-1

FCB started the week last week with a win over AmPo to win the Hyrdo-Eakly Labor Day Tournament. After a couple of comfortable wins on Tuesday, the Mustangs ran into a buzz saw on the mound in Dillon Lucas of Canute on Friday as he allowed only 2 hits to FCB in beating the Mustangs 4-0.

This upcoming week is huge for the Mustangs as they have one of the toughest weekly schedules you’ll ever see.

This week: Mon vs SSBR #3 Okarche; Tues vs SSBR #5 Dale; Thurs-Sat at Silo Invitational

5. Dale Pirates (2A, 12-4)

  • Prev rank: 2-1
  • Last week: 7

Dale is another case of losing a game but moving up in the standings. After losing by 1 run to AmPo on Monday, the Pirates realed off two good wins capping the week off with a 6 inning run rule over previous SSBR #2 Calumet.

This week: Mon vs Wellston, Tues at SSBR #6 FCB; Thur vs Asher; Sat vs Navajo

4. Calumet Chieftains (B, 13-2)

  • Prev rank: 2
  • Last week: 2-1

Calumet had their 12 game winning streak come to an end on Friday night as they lost a 6 inning run rule to Dale on the road. Before that, the Chieftains beat Oktaha on Tuesday in a game played at Seminole State and Moss on Friday at a game played at Dale HS.

This week: Mon at Union City; Tues vs Sentinel; Thur-Sat at AmPo/Okarche Tournament

3. Okarche Warriors (A, 12-2)

  • Prev rank: 5
  • Last week: 3-0

Okarche had a big week last week outscoring their 3 opponents by a run differential of 28 runs. The highlight of the week came on Friday as they blanked previous SSBR #6 Arapaho-Butler 4-0 behind Easton Roby’s complete game 2 hit, 6 strikeout performance.

This week: Mon at Ft Cobb-Broxton; Thurs-Sat at AmPo/Okarche Tournament

2. Wright City Lumberjax (A, 14-1)

  • Prev week: 3
  • Last week: 3-0

The Jax went 3-0 last week outscoring their opponents 19-3. Their highlight came on Friday as they beat SSBR #8 Byng 2-0. Kase Lindly shoved for Wright City as he pitched 7 innings giving up only 4 hits on 5 strikeouts.

This week: Mon vs Colbert; Tues at Smithville; Thurs-Sat at Silo Tournament

1. Silo Rebels (2A, 13-0)

  • Prev week: 1
  • Last week: 3-0

The machine known at Silo kept plugging along last week as they beat their 3 opponents 25-2. Not much else can be said about the Rebels at this point. Of their 13 games this season, Silo has played only 5 full games as they’ve run ruled the other 8 games.

This week: Mon at SSBR #7 Byng; Tues vs Asher; Thurs-Sat hosting the Silo Tournament
