The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.
Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.
One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and use a panel of voteres to do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.
*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall, teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly.
We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)
In the Spring we do a “Dominant Dozen” and last Fall we did a “Super Six.” This season we are doing an “Elite Eight” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall
As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.
Teams Dropped Out
- Rattan Rams (PR 3): 9-4; Went 0-3; Lost to Silo, Wister, Wright City
- AmPo Panthers (PR 8): 8-4, Went 3-2; Beat Ninnekah, Sterling, Navajo; Lost to Okarche, Arapaho-Butler

8. Byng Pirates (2A, 9-2)
- Prev Rank: NR
- Last week: 3-1
Byng is a team that has quietly had a very nice start to the season. They have nice wins over Calera, Ripley (2x), Navajo, and Roff – all state tournament contenders. On top of that, the Pirates are only 2 runs away from being unbeaten as they lost to Calera, 5-4, and Calumet, 4-3, in extra innings.
This week: Tues vs Santa Fe South, Thurs vs Rock Creek, Fri at #3 Wright City
7. Dale Pirates (2A, 10-3)
- Prev Rank: 4
- Last week: 4-1
While they may have slipped a little, Dale is still a team that is capable of beating anyone. The Pirates were shut out by Ft Cobb-Broxton this week in the HE Labor Day Tournament (they are still alive in the tournament that ends Monday). Dale’s 3 losses are all to teams ranked ahead of them and they own wins over FCB, Rattan, Oktaha, and Ripley among others.
This week: Mon vs AmPo (HE Labor Day Tournament), Fri: vs #2 Calumet (Asher Festival)
6. Arapaho-Butler Indians (A, 12-2)
- Prev Rank: 7
- Last week: 4-1
A-B was oh-so-close to having an undefeated week last week. There lone loss was to Ft Cobb-Broxton in which the Indians scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th to tie the Mustangs only to lose in 11 innings.
A-B did beat AmPo 11-1 in the winners bracket semis of the HE Labor Day Tournament and are still alive in the semifinals of the tournament as it wraps up on Monday.
This week: Mon vs winner of #7 Dale/AmPo (HE Labor Day Tournament); Tues vs Lookeba-Sickles; Thurs vs Leedey; Fri at #5 Okarche
5. Okarche Warriors (A, 9-2)
- Prev Week: 6
- Last week: 3-0
Okarche had another solid week last week going undefeated while outscoring their opponents 26-5 in their 3 games. Their week was highlighted by shutting out AmPo, 3-0.
The Warriors have another 3 games this week with a showdown vs Arapaho-Butler on Friday.
This week: Tues at Hydro-Eakly; Thur at Drummond; Fri vs #6 Arapaho-Butler
4. Ft Cobb-Broxton (B, 11-3)
- Prev Week: NR
- Last week: 6-0
Through the first 2 weeks of the Elite Eight, Ft Cobb-Broxton was no where to be found. However, you knew it would be just a matter of time before the Mustangs would make an appearance. And make an appearance they did.
FCB went 6-0 last week with wins over Ripley and Leedey in the Calumet Festival to start the week, and they are sitting in the finals of the HE Labor Day Tournament on Monday going 4-0 in the tournament with wins over Binger-Oney, Canute, Dale, and Arapaho-Butler.
The Mustangs are red with an 8 game winning streak after losing to Calumet earlier and, along with Calumet, they’ve solidified themselves as the class of Class B.
This week: Mon: finals of HE Labor Day Tournament; Tues at Granite, Fri: 2 games at Elk City Festival
3. Wright City Lumberjax (A, 11-1)
- Prev Week: 4
- Last week: 3-0
Wright City had their 2nd consecutive undefeated week last week than included wins over Wister and Rattan by a combined score of 13-2. Also, at no time in those games did the Jax trail.
Wright City has won 8 straight games since a loss to Okarche on the first Saturday of the season. The Jax have outscored their opponents 63-7 in that span.
This week: Tues at Haworth; Thurs at Red Oak; Fri vs #8 Byng
2. Calumet Chieftains (B, 11-1)
- Prev Week: 2
- Last week: 6-0
Ho hum. Another undefeated week and another tournament championship. That’s what Calumet did this past week as they went 6-0 and won the sneaky tough Roff Tournament.
Calumet went 3-0 in their Calumet Festival with two comfortable wins and a nail biter against the ultimate Jekyll/Hyde team in Leedey.
Then the Chieftains won the Roff Tournament with a tight game vs Byng sandwiched between 2 comfortable wins vs Latta and a run rule vs Tuska in the finals.
This week: Tues vs Oktaha; Fri vs Moss (Elk City Festival); Fri vs # 7 Dale (Asher Festival)
1. Silo Rebels (2A, 10-0)
- Prev Week: 1
- Last week: 5-0
Silo is has the longest winning streak currently and is the last unbeaten team in the state at 10-0.
The Rebels picked up 5 wins last week beating a good Latta team, 5-0, and then #3 Rattan, 6-1.
Silo then took their talent to the Show Me State going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents by a combined 26-2. The Rebels shut out one of Missouri’s best teams, Licking HS, 3-0.
This week: Tues at Roff, Fri vs AmPo, vs Latta (Asher Festival)
