This past Spring we started recognizing players and pitchers of small colleges and JUCOs weekly.
This Fall we wanted to extend that recognitions to our talented high school players here in the Sooner State as well.
Each week we send out nomination forms to the coaches to complete and we will choose a position player and pitcher from each class (2A, A, B) for the weekly award. The winners will receive something from SSBR for their achievement and each player/pitcher nominated will be listed in our weekly post.
Here are our winners for Week 2 (8/19-8/24)

Class 2A
Player of the Week
Reese Littlefield, Latta Panthers
Littlefield put up some monster numbers, but it was also the situation in which he did it that makes his week even more impressive. In the 3rd place game of the Tupelo Tournament against a good Calera team, Littlefield came up to bat in the top of the 6th with the bases loaded and his team down a run. Littlefield proceeds to hit a grand slam to give the Panthers the lead en route to the win over the Bulldogs.
Littlefield’s line: .470 (8-17), OBP .500, SLG 1.000, 2 HR (1 GS), 3 2B, 8 RBI, BB
Special recognition goes to Jeret House of Silo. Because the Rebels have been so dominant, House hasn’t got as many ABs as others, but when he does he makes the most of it. This past week House when 6-9, with a HR, 2 2B, 9 RBI and 2 BB.
Other nominees:
- Preston Welch, Byng Pirates
- Anthony Carter, Santa Fe South Saints
- Kaden Dean, Preston Pirates
Pitcher of the Week
Hagan Graham, Byng Pirates
In our first SSBR Game of the Week vs Stonewall last Monday, Graham was near perfect in his CG 5 IP outing. Graham gave up only 1 hit and 1 HBP but he struck out 11 Longhorn batters with no walks.
Graham added another 5 Ks in three innings of work against Navajo setting the table for Byng to get the win.
Graham’s line: G 2, GS 2, 1-0, 8.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 16 K, 5 BB
- Diego Rodriguez, Santa Fe South Saints
- Jadon Herring, Preston Pirates
Class A
Player of the Week
Jake Beutler, Canute Trojans
Usually when a player plays only 2 games during the week, it’s difficult to consider him a viable contender for the award. However, when those 2 games are the ones Jake Beutler put up, it is more than enough.
Due to an emergence, Beutler was only able to play 2 games last week. However, in those 2 games, Beutler hit more home runs and had more RBIs than any other player nominated. He even hit an astounding 3.00 slugging percentage.
Beutler’s line: .800 (4-5), OBP .833, SLG 3.00, 3 HR, 3B, 8 RBI, BB
Other nominees:
- Brody Guest, Wright City
- Ryalan Moore, Arapaho-Butler
- Gavin Hull, Wellston
- Colin Hendrickson, Okarche
- Nathan Mahan, Fletcher
Pitcher of the Week
Luke Bailey, Arapaho-Butler Indians
Bailey was outstanding in his lone appearance last week: a start vs Granite in the semis of the A-B Fall Classic. Baiey kept the Panthers hitters guessing as he scattered 4 hits in his 6.1 innings of work allowing only 1 run.
Bailey’s line: G 1, GS 1, (W), 6.1 IP, 4 H, ER, 13 K, 3 BB
Special recognition to Rayner Beene of Wright City. Beene saw action in 2 games (1 start) and gave up only 5 hits in 8 IP and only 2 ERl.
Other nominees:
- Dillon Lucas, Canute Trojans
- Justin Kelley, Wellston Tigers
- Luke Hill, Okarche
- Nathan Mahan, Fletcher
Class B
Player of the Week
Kaleb Thiessen, Calumet Chieftains
Thiessen is your traditional lead off hitter as he finds a way to get on base. However he isn’t your traditional lead off hitter as he does so much more damage than what a lead off batter does.
Take this week for example, Thiessen slugged 1.00 from the lead off spot with knocking 8 runs. Sure RBIs are dependent on people being on base, but great run producers find a way to knock them in when given the chance.
Thiessen’ line: 467 (7-15), .529 OBP, SLG 1.000, HR, 3 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, 8 R
Special recognition to Stuart’s Zack Luker. On another week, it could’ve been Luker’s name as the winner, but we thought Thiessen had the better week by the thinnest of margins.
Luker’s line: 429 (6-14), .556 OBP, SLG 1.000, HR, 2 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, 4 BB, 4 R
Other nominees:
- Casen Buck, Dover Longhorns
- Brady Wootten, Sentinel Bulldogs
- Grant Milner, Duke Tigers
- Jace Dickey, Calvin Bulldogs
- Hayden Tinsley, Big Pasture Rangers
Pitcher of the Week
Kyler Thiessen, Calumet Chieftains
In a week where several pitchers could’ve been chosen, it was the situation(s) that Thiessen pitched in that gave him the nod.
With the Chieftains trailing by a run to FCB, Thiessen came in relief in the 4th inning and pitched 4.2 innings without giving up a hit allowing the Chieftains to beat the Mustangs in extra innings.
In the Leedey Invitational championship, Thiessen came in relief in the 2nd innings with Calumet already down 4-2 to Dale. Thiessen then pitched the final 6 innings without allowing a run on only 2 hits.
Thiessen’s line: G 2, 2-0, 10.2 IP, 2 H, 12 K, 5 BB
Other nominees:
- Kolson Edge, Boswell Scorpions
- Mario Berumen, Sentinel Bulldogs
- Nolan Stewart, Stuart Hornets
- Lane Tinsley, Big Pasture Rangers
