The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.

Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.

One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and use a panel of voteres to do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.

*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall since teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly.

We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)

In the Spring we do a “Dominant Dozen” and last Fall we did a “Super Six.” This season we are doing an “Elite Eight” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall

As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.

Teams Dropping Out

  • Colbert Leopards (PR 8): 11-1; Went 3-1, lost to Calera 12-2
  • Byng Pirates (PR 7): 6-1; Went 3-1, lost to Calera 5-4
  • Oktaha Tigers (PR 6): 6-3: Went 4-1, lost to Rattan 12-4

Teams Receiving Votes

  • Oktaha Tigers

8. AmPo Panthers (A, 8-2)

  • Prev Rank: NR
  • Last week: 4-0

The Panthers make their debut in the Elite Eight on the back of a 4-0 week. The Class A State Champ contender is also only 2 runs away from having a perfect 10-0 start. They lost back to back games at the Dale Invitational by 1 run each (Rattan, 5-4; Oktaha, 14-13).

The Panthers can really solidify this season with a big week coming up. They’ve got home games against fellow Class A contenders Sterling and Okarche then they play in the tough Hydro-Eakly Labor Day Tournament.

This week: Mon vs Sterling; Tues: vs Okarche; Thurs-Mon: HE Labor Day Tournament

7. Arapaho-Butler Indians (A, 8-1)

  • Prev Rank: NR
  • Last week: 3-1

After a State Semifinals appearance in the Spring, the Indians had high expectations this Fall. After a 5-0 start to the season, A-B had a hiccup to Hydro-Eakly.

However, the Indians looked real good this weekend winning their own tournament. A-B beat Verden, Granite, and Sterling by a combined score of 25-5 with a 3-0 shutout to previously unbeaten Sterling in the finals.

This week: Mon at Riverside; Thurs-Mon: HE Labor Day Tournament

6. Okarche Warriors (A, 6-2)

  • Prev Rank: 2
  • Last week: 3-2

Usualy it is hard for a team to lose twice in the same week and remain in the rankings. However, when two of the wins are against to previously 1 loss Ripley and previously SSBR #1 Dale.

The Warriors 2 losses were “good losses” as well. They lost by 1 run to Rattan and in extras to a good Wister team.

Okarche has a big game on Tuesday to newly ranked AmPo on the road.

This week: Mon vs Vici; Tues at AmPo; Thurs at Union City

T4. Wright City Lumberjax (A, 8-1)

  • Prev Rank: 5
  • Last week: 4-0

The Jax just quietly keep going about their business. After a tough loss last Saturday to Okarche, Wright City went an undefeated 4-0 this week including a championship at the Varnum Tournament. The Jax blanked a good Stuart team in the finals 8-0.

Among Wright City’s games this week are a couple of good ones at Wister and home vs Rattan.

This week: Mon at Ft Towson; Tues @ Wister; Fri vs Rattan

T4. Dale Pirates (2A, 6-2)

  • Prev Rank: 1
  • Last week: 3-2

The Pirates had an up and down week last week with losses to previosly ranked #2 Okarche and losing in the Leedey Invitational finals to Class B stalwart, Calumet. However Dale beat Latta, Drummond, and Hammon by a combined score of 40-12.

Dale also still has the best win of the season so far vs Rattan (21-11) and wins over Ft Cobb-Broxton and Oktaha.

This week: Mon vs Moss; Tues at Ripley; Thurs-Mon at HE Labor Day Tournament

3. Rattan Rams (A, 9-1)

  • Prev Rank: 4
  • Last week: 5-0

The Rams responded with a vengeance this week after a tough loss to Dale last Saturday. Rattan went 5-0 with wins over Okarche and Oktaha en route to the Oktaha Tournament Championship.

The Rams are a menace at the plate as they are averaging 9.7 runs/game on the season and scored 51 in their 5 games last week.

Rattan has a gauntlet of games this week with Silo, Wister, and Wright City all on the road.

This week: Tues at Silo; Thur at Wister; Fri at Wright City

2. Calumet Chieftains (B, 5-1)

  • Prev Rank: NR
  • Last Week: 4-0

To be honest, Calumet was left out of the first rankings because they went 1-1 in their first week with their win vs Lomega.

This week Calumet made a case as the favorite in Class B as they beat a Ft Cobb-Broxton team that beat them in both state championship games last school year and won the Leedey Invitational scoring 11 unanswered runs vs previously SSBR #1 Dale in the finals.

This week: Mon vs Granite; Tues vs Drummond, Thur-Sat at Roff Tournament

1. Silo Rebels (2A, 5-0)

  • Prev Rank: 3
  • Last week: 3-0

In their 5 games this year, Silo has not scored LESS than 12 runs in any game. In winning the Tupelo Tournament this weekend, the Rebels outscored their opponents a combined 51-9 in a total of only 13 innings as they run ruled Moss, Latta, and Tupelo.

Silo is the only team in the Elite Eight that hasn’t played one of the other teams, but that changes this week as they host Rattan on Tuesday before heading out to play 4 teams in Missouri over the weekend for their annual Fall trip.

This week: Mon vs Latta; Tues vs Rattan; Fri-Sat vs 4 teams in Missouri
