We made it through the first full week of the season with some great team performances. As coaches would say though, it’s time to look forward.

That’s what we are going to do here with our SSBR Games of the Week for Week 2.

When we select the Games of the Week, we like to select games that aren’t part of a tournament since we focus on several tournaments each week. Most teams are playing in a tournament this coming weekend, so all five of our GOTW are on Monday and Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at what’s on tap for this week.

Stonewall (4-1) at Byng (3-0), Monday, 4:30 p.m.

This is a game between 2 teams that could be state tournament contenders in their respective classes (Stonewall, A; Byng, 2A). Last week Stonewall was 1 run away from going 5-0 (9-8 loss to Roff) while Byng beat Calera, Ripley, and Drummond. Byng landed at #7 on our initial SSBR Fall Elite Eight rankings.

Calumet (1-1) at Ft Cobb-Broxton (3-2), Monday, 5:00 p.m.

Even though these 2 teams didn’t have the week they expected in Week 1, it doesn’t mean that the luster is off this game. Calumet loss a close game to Class A state contender, Okarche, while FCB was beaten by Class A Navajo and Class 2A Dale.

These 2 teams played each other in both state championship games in 2023-2024 with the Mustangs winning both games.

This game will also be the first game at FCB after the renovation at their field.

Santa Fe South (3-1) at OK Christian Academy (2-1), (Monday, 8:00 p.m.)

This is the first time either of these teams have ever been selected GOTW. However, both of these teams look to have an improved season this fall. This game will take place after both teams play a game vs Vanoss so if either of these teams go 2-0 on Monday, it could help give them even more confidence as the season gets started.

Tushka (4-2) at Wright City (3-1), Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.

This is a matchup of 2 teams that are state tournament contenders for what seems like almost every year.

Wright City opened the season with an impressive run rule win over Spring 2A State Champ, Oktaha and loss to Okarche (4-2) in Seminole on Saturday.

Tushka’s 2 losses came in a Spring Class A State Championship rematch vs AmPo and a walk off loss to FCB in the Dale Inviational.

Dale (3-0) at Okarche (3-0), Tuesday, 4:30

In the 2nd week of the season, there is not a better matchup state wide than Dale/Okarche. Both teams went undefeated last week with impressive schedules. They were so impressive that they are the top 2 teams (Dale #1, Okarche #2) in our Week 1 SSBR Elite Eight rankings.

Dale won their 50th Dale Invitational with wins over FCB, Oktaha, and Rattan. The Pirates scored 10, 10, and 21 runs respectively in those 3 games.

Okarche beat Canute, Calumet, and Wright City by scores of 7-3, 2-0, and 4-2.

Other Games of Note

  • Calera at Colbert, Monday
  • Okarche at Ripley, Monday
  • Ripley at Mulhall-Orlando, Tuesday
