The 2024 OSSAA Fall Season is upon us this week. During the Fall Season, we get to see some incredible matchups on the diamond.

Week 1 is no different as teams forgo “easing” into the season and schedule games against other teams that will definitely see where they are to start the season.

We will highlight five games each week that we think garner the moniker “Game of the Week.”

While we’ve done this in the past with a post on social media, this Fall Season we will take a quick preview of each matchup going into the week.

Oktaha at Wright City, Monday 8/12

Oktaha is coming off of an incredible 2023-2024. They went a combined 63-5 and won the Class 2A Spring championship in dominant fashion. The Tigers lost a few key players in Maddox Edwards and Kip Christian, but they do return Darren Ledford, Mason Pickering, Nic Tolbert, and Dylan Walden.

The Lumberjax have quietly been one of the most consistent teams of any class. Wright City went a combined 51-13 last year with appearances in both the Fall and Spring Class A State Tournaments.

Senior shortstop, Rayner Beene leads the Jax at both the plate and the mound.

Silo at Wister, Tuesday, 8/13

Silo went through a transition in 2023-2024. Gone was long time head coach, Billy Jack Bowen, and in was new head coach, Eddie Jeffcoat. Gone were several upperclassmen who helped the Rebels win a state title in the Spring, 2023, and Silo had to rely on underclassmen to replace the production. Plus, the Rebels moved up to Class 3A in the Spring.

It didn’t seem to matter as Silo went a combined 49-15 over the 2 seasons finishing as State Runner Up in the Fall and making the state tournament in the Spring.

Those underclassmen now have a full school year of experience behind them and Coach Jeffcoat is fully settled in as the man in charge. Silo looks to build on a solid “transition year” and go even further in 2024-2025.

Wister is another team that quietly had a great 2023-2024. The Wildcats went a combined 48-12 and made the Class A State Tournament in the Fall and the Class 2A State Tournament in the Spring.

Getting the Rebels at home in the first week of the season will be a good test to see where the Wildcats are to start the season.

Rattan Rams at Tupelo Tigers, Tuesday, 8/13

Rattan was great (again) in 2023-2024. They were a combined 59-10 and won the Class A Fall State Championship and made the Class A State Tournament in the Spring where they lost to eventual champion, Amber-Pocasset.

The Rams return a ton of talent and according to head coach, Michael Clay, they have a lineup that he’d put up against anyone. Rattan also have some elite arm and depth in their pitching staff. They are once again state title contenders.

Tupelo is perennially one of the top team in Class B. In 2023-2024, the Tigers won a combined 43 games and were State Semifinalists in both the Fall and Spring. In fact, Tupelo was one of only 4 teams to make the State Semifinals in both Fall and Spring in 2023-2024 (Ft Cobb-Broxton, Calumet, Okarche, Tupelo).

Preston at Kiowa, Thursday, 8/15

Preston quietly went a combined 54-9 in 2023-2024 qualifying for the Class A State Tournament in the Fall and a Class 2A State Semifinalist in the Spring.

The Pirates return 6 everyday starters at the top of their lineup. Couple that with their arms on the mound, and Preston looks to get back to the State Tournament this Fall to make some noise.

Kiowa is another school that always seems to be in the Class B State Tournament. That was the case last school year as the Cowboys made both State Tournaments in the Fall and Spring. The Cowboys were semifinalists in the Spring losing to eventual state champ, Ft Cobb-Broxton.

Calumet at Okarche, Friday, 8/16

Calumet was one of the best teams regardless of class in 2023-2024. They went a combined 53-6 in Fall and Spring and finished State Runner Up in both seasons.

Head Coach, Cody Thiessen has done a tremendous job in his 2 seasons at Claumet and the expectations aren’t any different for his 3rd. His sons Kyler and Kaleb will lead the way for the Chieftains on the field.

Okarche was a team that no one wanted to play in 2023-2024. The Warriors were a quiet 49-10 combined and made the State Semifinals in both the Fall and Spring.

As stated above, both Calumet and Okarche were 2 of 4 teams to make the state semifinals in both Fall and Spring.
