It’s hard to believe that the 2024 Fall Baseball Season is almost upon us, but that is the case as August 12 is the official start of the regular season.

Here at Sooner State Baseball Report it is our goal to provide as much coverage as we can. One way we are trying to do that is preview as many teams as we can before the start of the season.

We’ve sent out a questionnaire to many of the teams that play fall ball in hope that they will give us an honest outlook on their upcoming season. We’ve had a few responses so far.

Today’s team: Navajo Indian

Class: A*

Fall 2023 Record: 20-10 (Class A)

Spring 2024 Record: 29-3 (Class B State Tournament Qualifier)

Head Coach: Weston Winters

Head Coaching Experience: 16 (all at Navajo)

*Navajo is currently listed in Class A for Fall Baseball according to the last ADM by the OSSAA. The newest ADM is expected in the near future and there is a possibility that Navajo will be Class B this Fall like they are in the Spring.

Returning Starters and Top Players

The Indians return 7 starters and 2 pitchers only that were part of a team that made it to the Class B State Tournament in the Spring.

  • Dallas Sanchez is a senior that is a LHP and 1B that Coach Winters describes as a “really good hitter.”
  • Dawsen Bradham will provide senior leadership behind the plate who is a “really good athlete and great base runner.”
  • Craig Russell is just a sophomore but is a shortstop who leads off with a “very high baseball IQ.”
  • Jake Lingle is another sophomore who plays 3B and pitches. He also hase “really good offensive power” at the plate.
  • Aden Allen is a junior CF who also pitches. Last spring he hit a high average with “a lot of power.”
  • Carson Brooks is a senior who will be a 4 year starter for the Indians who has a “great arm” in the outfield.
  • Gunner Jackson is a junior that is a “really versatile player” and can play multiple positions in the field to go along with his good bat.
  • Kace Angelly and Garret Cunningham are the 2 PO’s that will pitch a lot of innings for Navajo.

Outlook

As of the writing of this preview, Navajo still doesn’t know what class they will be placed in for the Fall season. Their ADM teeters on the line of Class A and Class B so their is a chance they will be Class B for the next school year.

As far as what Navajo is looking for on the field this Fall season, Coach Winters says their pitching and defense will be their strengths. If the Indians can be consistent and hold themselves accountable, they can get back to a state tournament regardless which classification they are.
