The National Junior College Athletic Association released it’s All America teams for each division and a total of five players from our Oklahoma squads were named to various teams.

In the Division 1 level, we had two players named: one as a 1st Team selection, and one as an honorable mention.

In the Division 2 level, we had three players named: one as a 1st Team selection, and two as 3rd Team selections.

1st Team All Americans

Caden Powell (INF), Seminole State Trojans (SO): Division 1

Caden Powell was “Mr. Everything” for the Trojans this past season. The Clinton Red Tornado alum put up numbers that would be MVP worthy in a 162 game MLB season (SSC played 55 games).

For the season, Powell slashed (AVG/OBP/SLG) .502/.561/1.088 with 32 HR, 104 RBI, 17 2B, 7 3B, 28 K, 29 BB, and 16/17 SB.

Powell’s AVG was 2nd in the nation and his HR were 1st (2nd had 25) and RBI were 1st as well (2nd was 95 by Connors State’s Wally Diaz).

Who could forget the monster game the OSU signee had on March 29?

The NJCAA did not name a “National Player of the Year, ” but can’t imagine it being anyone else than Powell if they had.

Landen Johnson (INF), NOC Tonkawa Mavericks (SO): Division 2

The redshirt sophomore first basemen had a monster year for the Mavs. Much like Caden Powell for the Trojans in Div 1, Johnson was one of the premier power hitters in Div 2.

In 61 games, Johnson slashed .427/.500/.774 with 19 HR, 90 RBI, 24 2B, 1 3B, 31 K, 29 BB.

His 19 HR was tied for the 4th most in the nation and his 90 RBI was 2nd most.

Furthermore, Johnson’s total hits (102) and total bases (185) were 1st in the nation, and his 24 doubles were 3rd.

Johnson will move on to play at High Point University next season. The Panthers were Big South Champions this season and eliminated Vanderbilt from this year’s NCAA Tournament at the Clemson Regional.

3rd Team All Americans

Blade Carver (C) NOC Tonkawa Mavericks, (FR): Division 2

The freshman from Denton, TX had a great year for the Mavericks. He slashed .404/.487/.647 with 7 HR, 70 RBI, 22 2B, 7 3B, 42 K, 36 BB.

His 70 RBI was 14th in the nation; 10 2B was 10th; 7 3B was 6th.

Along with those numbers, Carver’s 95 hits were 3rd in the country and his 152 total bases was 8th.

Derek Cerda (OF), Western OK State Pioneers (SO): Division 1

Another year, another All American for Western. This year is Derek Cerda as Cerda led Division 2 in home runs for the 2024 campaign.

Cerda slashed .388/.489/.796 with 21 HR, 70 RBI, 15 2B, 1 3B, 32 K, 33 BB, and 24/26 SB.

Along with his national leading home runs, Cerda’s 70 RBI was 14th in the country and his 156 total bases was 5th.

Cerda will be playing for the Kansas Jayhawks in 2025.

Honorable Mention

Twine Palmer (RHP), Connors State Cowboys (FR): Division 1

The freshman from McAlester was a full time starter for the Cowboys in 2024 and it is easy to see why.

In Palmer’s 15 appearances (all starts) he had 10-3 record with 94.0 IP, 2.87 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 77 H, 110 K, 29 BB, and a BAA of .212.

Palmer was 14th in the country in wins, 26th in ERA, 8th in Ks, 6th in innings pitched, and 6th in complete games (5)
