Welp, here we are. We are at the end of the regular season for small college baseball in the Sooner State. Apologies for not getting the awards out for last week (postseason high school baseball consumed almost all of our time).

The small colleges ended their regular season one week before our JUCO teams did and since JUCOs were the only ones that had regular season games left this past week, we have only JUCO award winners this week.

To be honest, we didn’t get any nominations besides our winners, but that’s ok because these two were going to win anyway with the performances they had.

Player of the Week

Landen Johnson (1B), NOC Tonkawa

After a rough patch in the middle of the Region 2 slate, the Mavericks have come storming back to finish 2nd in the Oklahoma side of the Region and will host the opening series with ASU-Mountain Home.

Johnson has been a huge part of that. For the season, Johnson finished 2nd in Region 2 in hitting and home runs (.436 and 16), and 1st in RBI (77) and doubles (23).

This week was no different.

Johnson’s line: .677 (10-15), HR, 2B, 9 RBI, 6 R

Pitcher of the Week

Cade Sims (LHP), Redlands CC

Not much went right for the Cougars this season, but one of the bright spots as been the performance of redshirt freshman, Cade Sims, on the mound. A victim of many hard luck losses, Sims was in the top 10 the Region in ERA and innings pitched.

There were times this season where Sims had electric stuff and it all came together this past Saturday in his last start of the season where he no hit Western to lead Redlands to a 3-0 win.

Here’s the final out:

Sims’ line: CG 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 7 K, 4 BB
