We finally made it to the pinnacle of high school baseball, the state tournament. In 6A, we saw some crazy regionals, with teams like Westmoore and Enid coming out of the losers bracket and beating host schools twice to clinch a spot in the tournament. We’ll be in Norman this Thursday and Friday to give you all live updates from every game of the first two rounds before making the trip to Bricktown on Saturday to cover the 4A-6A championship games. To set the table for this weekend, here’s a little preview of what to expect this weekend.

Edmond Santa Fe vs Sand Springs (11:00 a.m.)

Edmond Santa Fe (Last appearance – 2022)

Santa Fe hosted this year after winning their district and welcomed Mustang, PC West, and Lawton to their home field. It took an extra day due to rain delays, but the Wolves were able to clinch their spot in the state tournament with a 6-4 victory over Mustang, going a perfect 3-0 in the regional.

Sand Springs (Last Appearance – 2011)

After coming gut-wrenchingly close over the past few seasons, the Sandites finally broke through and reached the state tournament. They had to make the trip to Tulsa to make it happen, heading to the Union regional as a two-seed along with Bishop Kelley and Bartlesville. The pitching staff was the story of the weekend for the Sandites, giving up only two runs in three games, and clinching a spot in the state tournament with a 2-0 victory over Union.

Edmond Memorial vs Owasso (1:30 p.m.)

Edmond Memorial (Last Appearance – 2022)

The Bulldogs were put in a tough situation in regionals as they became the unlucky host who would be forced to play a four-seed Yukon that likely would have been a two-seed somewhere if not for being forced to forfeit games from earlier in the season. It didn’t phase the Bulldogs though, and they would go a perfect 3-0 and move on to the state tournament.

Owasso (Last Appearance – 2023)

The preseason favorites in 6A didn’t disappoint this season, winning their district by two games and finishing the year four games clear of the cut line to host a regional. The Rams welcomed Broken Arrow, Moore, and Capitol Hill to their home field, and after an easy win over Capitol Hill, gave us one of the better games of the weekend in an extra-inning win over Broken Arrow. Owasso would clinch their spot in state one game later with a 7-1 win over Moore, making this their ninth consecutive season making the state tournament.

Westmoore vs Enid (4:00 p.m.)

Westmoore (Last Appearance – 2023)

Things looked bleak for the Jaguars early in their regional tournament, losing to the hosting Edmond North Huskies in a five-inning run-rule on day one. However, the Westmoore pitching staff responded in a big way, throwing three straight shutouts, including back-to-back against Edmond North, to make their way out of the loser’s bracket and clinch a spot in the state tournament.

Enid (Last Appearance – 2023)

The Plainsmen didn’t make things easy on themselves as they looked to make a return to the state championship, dropping game one of the regional to Norman North. Luckily, Enid might be better equipped to go five games deep into a regional than anybody else in the state, with an overflow of quality arms ready to take the mound at any time. The depth of the Plainsmen pitching staff came through in a big way in their next four games, throwing back-to-back shutouts on Friday to send them to the “if necessary” game, where they only allowed one run, beating the hosting Piedmont Wildcats 10-1 to steal a spot in the state tournament.

Choctaw vs Stillwater (6:30 p.m.)

Choctaw (Last Appearance – 2018)

Choctaw was without a doubt the most consistent team in 6A throughout the season, amassing an impressive 25-3 record in the regular season. Their dominance continued in regionals, collecting run-rule wins in two of three games, with the only game to go a full seven ending in a run-rule score of 12-1 after a five-run seventh inning for Choctaw.

Stillwater (Last Appearance – 2023)

After allowing a four-seed Ponca City team hang around for much longer than they would have liked in an 18-11 shootout game one, the Pioneers hit a new gear in their second game, run-ruling the defending state champion Bixby Spartans 15-3. They would clinch their second consecutive state tournament appearance the next day, beating Bixby again, this time in a much more competitive 7-4 matchup.
