It’s hard to believe that the postseason is already here for the teams in NAIA baseball. But for 8 of the 9 teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference it is.

The SAC is huge for the teams that are in it as the conference only gets one automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament and it goes to the winner of the SAC Tournament.

However, that doesn’t necessarily means those that don’t win the tournament won’t make one of the ten sites for the NAIA First Round. The NAIA uses at rating system called “Bo Chip” (think of it like an RPI for NCAA sports) to use as a main guideline for their at-large bids. There are 46 teams that go to the national tournament, so you do the math.

Latest Bo Chip Ratings for Oklahoma SAC Teams:

• MACU – 6
• OCU – 12
• USAO – 25
• SCU – 111
• OPSU, 149

Looking at the Bo Chip Ratings, one can assume that both MACU and OCU are “locks” to get in the NAIA First Round. It is probably safe to assume that at 25 the Drovers are in good position as well (although I’m sure a few more wins wouldn’t hurt).

For Southwestern Christian and OK Panhandle State, they are going to have to play their best baseball of the season over the next few days and win the conference tournament.

Tournament Format

Eight teams made the tournament, with the tournament split into 2 – 4 team brackets and the winners of each bracket playing a winner take all championship game. The two sites are USAO and OCU.

The seeding is a little different than normal this year. OCU is the #2 seed and USAO is the #3 seed. In normal brackets, the #2 and #3 seed are in the same half of the bracket, but since both schools are hosting, USAO is grouped with the #1 seed, MACU.
