Piedmont

Record: 23-12 (11-3)

The Wildcats’ first season in 6A has gone about as well as anyone could have hoped, and Piedmont now finds themselves as the champions of what ended up being one of the deepest districts in 6A. Piedmont used a huge district sweep over Bixby to vault themselves to the top of the district, and, thanks to a little help from Ponca City upsetting Union last week to split the series, never relinquished their place at the top from that point on. During their late-season district hot streak, the Piedmont pitching staff has been locked in, never giving up more than five in a district matchup since the calendar turned to April. It has been the duo of junior Catcher Lindley and senior Noah Aller that have led the charge for the Wildcats on the mound, with seniors Cole Pruitt and Weston Thomas leading the offense from the top of the order.

Norman North

Record: 18-15 (9–5)

Perhaps the biggest story from the Timberwolves season has been the emergence of what has quickly become what I believe to be the most underrated district starter duo in the state, seniors Spencer Ille and Tanner Ellis. In district games started by one of these two, Norman North has yet to give up more than three runs this season. At times, the offense has been viable to go cold, especially against some of the state’s bigger arms as you’d expect, but the Timberwolves are a threat to beat any team in the state if either of these guys are on the mound. Notably, Norman North has stumbled into the postseason, losing each of their last five games, but it once again has been mostly a result of the bats going cold, something that could flip at any time. If they can get the offense going, Norman North will be a major threat to make a run over the next two weeks.

Enid

Record: 23-12 (9-5)

After a solid, albeit inconsistent, season, the Plainsmen found themselves at the bottom of a three-way tiebreaker between themselves, Bixby, and Broken Arrow. After breaking through in a big way last season, making it to the state championship before falling to Bixby, the Plainsmen had high expectations of making a habit of going on deep postseason runs. A deep run is still well within reach for an Enid team that has shown flashes of being the dangerous team many expected them to be this year, however, the Plainsmen have also dropped a few games against teams you would expect them to handle much more easily throughout the season as well. The strength of this Enid squad is the depth of its staff, so an early loss wouldn’t hurt them as much as it would many other teams. As we get deeper into the regional, matchups will become more and more favorable for Enid, so look out for the Plainsmen to make more noise than your typical three-seed.

Muskogee

Record: 8-25 (0-14)

It was a tough year for the Roughers as they were unable to find a way to win any of the big ones, going 0-21 against teams in 5A and 6A. However, late in the season, they showed a little spark, cutting a nine-run lead down to two in the 7th against a hosting Stillwater squad, although they would fall short of what would have been the biggest district upset of the season in 6A. Add on to that the fact that it was only a season ago that a 4th seed Muskogee squad rolled into Broken Arrow and took down the Tigers in the first round of their regional before eventually falling just one run short of a second win over the Tigers to go to the regional championship, and you’ve got if nothing else a reason to check in on the opening game of this regional to see if the Roughers have some of that magic once again.
