With it being our 2nd season here at Sooner State Baseball Report, we are trying some new things out to make our coverage even better. One of those things is awarding a Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week for the various levels. Each week we will send out a nomination form to each head coach and we will pick from those nominations.

We have awards in the small college division (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) and the junior college division.

Here are your winners for the week.

Small College

Player of the Week

Trent Kiraly (C/INF), Oklahoma City Stars

The senior from New Mexico has been a cornerstone for the Stars lineup this season. Kiraly is currently batting .393 with 17 HRs and 53 RBIs for the season. He had another great week as the Stars swept Central Christian to stay in the race for the SAC top spot.

Kiraly’s line: .555 (5-9), HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB

Pitcher of the Week

Ryan Cullinane (RHP), USAO Drovers

Cullinane got his first start of the season for the Drovers this past weekend and he made the most of it. In a game where the Drovers’ offense was uncharacteristically quiet, Cullinane provided what USAO needed – a complete game shutout.

Junior College

Player of the Week

Cale Wetwiska (UTL), NOC Enid Jets

We’ve seen Wetwiska nominated before – both as a player and pitcher – as he’s been a top notch 2-way player for the Jets. It is what he did this past week at the plate that got him the award.

Wetwiska’s line: .636 (7-11), 3 HR, 2B, 8 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, SB

Pitcher of the Week

Grayson Connell (RHP), Eastern Mountaineers

Not much has gone right for the Mountaineers this season, but they’ve had some good performances on the mound. Connell pitched a gem vs Rose State this week to help the Mountaineers take the series vs the Raiders.

Connell’s line: CG 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 5 K, BB
