With it being our 2nd season here at Sooner State Baseball Report, we are trying some new things out to make our coverage even better. One of those things is awarding a Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week for the various levels. Each week we will send out a nomination form to each head coach and we will pick from those nominations.
We have awards in the small college division (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) and the junior college division.
Here are your winners for the week.
Small College
Player of the Week
Lance Barnett (UTL), Cameron Aggies

Barnett has been as consistent of a player this year as you will see in the state at any level. In 38 games, he is batting .405 with 13 HR, 18 2B, 6 3B, 43 RBI. Barnett’s average has been as high at .486 but never lower than .343 which was during the 2nd week of February.
Barnett was already the first 2-time winner of the SSBR Player of the Week and now he is the first 3-time winner.
Barnett’s line: G 4, .411 (7-17), 2 HR, 4 2B, 10 RBI, 2 BB, 5R
Other nominees:
- Ian Ortiz, USAO: .500 (5-10), HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
- Hagen Barcello, NWOSU: .571 (8-14), 3 HR, 9 RBI, BB, 7 R
Pitcher of the Week
Brian Ereu (RHP), USAO Drovers

After weeks of being nominated, Ereu gets the nod this week not just for his performance, but when that performance came. The Drovers played their rival, OCU, this week and lost the first two games at home. Ereu got the start for game 3 in a spot where the Drovers desperately needed a win not just to avoid getting swept by their rival, but also to keep pace to finish in the top half of the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Other pitchers had great performances this week like Ereu, but with the margin razor thin, it was the situation that gave Ereu the edge.
Ereu’s line: CG 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 8 K, 0 BB
Other nominees:
- Henrry Ogando, Southwestern Christian:
CG 7 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 5 K
- Isaac Baez, MACU:
CG 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 K, 0 BB
- Max McClain, NWOSU: (SV) 3.2 IP, H, 0 R
- Brady Gilmore, UCO:
6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K, BB (MIAA Pitcher of the Week)
Junior College
Player of the Week
Wally Diaz (INF), Connors State Cowboys

Diaz is at the top of the list for Player of the Year candidates for Region 2/Div 1. The infielder has a slash line of .396/.473/.903 so far and he was up to his tricks again this past week.
This is Diaz’ 2nd time to be named Player of the Week and we can see why.
Diaz’ line: .643 (9-14), 4 HR, 2 2B, 13 RBI and an OPS of 2.310
Other nominees:
- Larry Edwards, NOC Tonkawa: .600 (6-10), 2 HR, 3 2B, 8 RBI, 5 R, SB
- Miles Lock, NOC Enid: .583 (7-12), 2B 5 RBI, 3 R, 2 HBP, 2 SB
Pitcher of the Week

If you’ve been paying attention, then you know that Seminole State is on a heater right now. They are currently on a 12 game winning streak and with performances like the one Gio Degraauw had last week, you can see why.
Degraauw’s line: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 11 K, 2 BB
Other nominees:
- Brannon Westmoreland, Connors State: 3 G, W, 2 SV, 7.1 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 3 K, BB
- Christian Estep, NOC Enid:
CG 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 7 K (no hits after the 3rd inning)
