Week 11 brought us great tournaments at the high school level like the Bill Tipton Tournament and the BA/Bixby Turf War, conference sweeps for all three division one teams in the state, although not the good kind if you’re an ORU fan, and lots of fun matchups amongst the small schools across the state. Week 12 trades a drop off in the number of high school tournaments for some of the year’s biggest series at the college level, so let’s look at two of the best ones right now.

Matchup of the week (College) – Oklahoma Wesleyan vs Kansas Wesleyan

For our matchup of the week, we head to the NAIA level for a matchup between the top two teams in the KCAC standings, Kansas and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Oklahoma Wesleyan saw their lead in the standings end last week after dropping a game each against Evangel University and Mcpherson College. The beneficiary of those losses was Kansas Wesleyan, who swept a huge series against Tabor College to take a one-game lead in the standings. Kansas Wesleyan will have the advantage of being the home team this weekend, and if they’re able to sweep the Eagles would clinch the conference regular-season crown.

Top Sooner State Showdown (College) – Connors State vs Seminole State

In Region 2, there are only two teams still in the running to take the regular season conference crown, Seminole State and Connors State. Connors has repeated their regular season success from 2023 this year, playing their way to a 39-5 record with a 14-4 mark in conference play, good enough for a one-game lead in the standings. The Trojans come into this series as one of the hottest teams in not just the state but the country. They’ve won 12 straight, and are looking to take a lead in the standings into their last series of the year next week. Seminole State will get the final two games of the series at home where they’re an outstanding 18-2 on the year. With so little time left in the season, whichever team can take this series will have a great chance to come into the postseason as the one seed in the Region 2 tournament.

Where I’ll be this week – Edmond Memorial vs Edmond Santa Fe

This Thursday I’ll be in Edmond for a midweek crosstown rivalry matchup between Edmond Memorial and Edmond Santa Fe. All three Edmond high schools have been spectacular this season, with Memorial being the only one of the three that isn’t undefeated in district games at a still impressive 8-2 in district play. Both teams are playing teams in district play this week that would allow them to potentially save a typical district arm for this midweek matchup if they chose to do so, which means we could be in for an even better matchup than you’d expect from a midweek game.

It is also of our SSBR High School Games of the Week
