One of the top interstate festivals each year is the Owasso Nike/Pro-Nine Festival, and this year is no different. Three states will be represented at this year’s event, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. Since our mission at SSBR is to provide coverage of all Oklahoma baseball, our coverage will focus on the four representatives of Oklahoma this weekend, but we’ll touch on the out-of-state teams as well.
Team Previews
Owasso
Let’s start with the hosts of the festival, the Owasso Rams. It’s been yet another great season to this point for the Rams as they continue on their hunt for their second state title in three seasons. They’re out to a hot 9-1 start in district play, with their only district loss coming in their first series of the season against Stillwater. They’ll play three games this weekend, as will each of the four Oklahoma schools, including the only Oklahoma vs Oklahoma matchup of the weekend on Saturday. On Thursday they’ll face off with the Kickapoo Chiefs (MO), a matchup with Ozark (MO) awaits them on Friday, and their weekend will conclude with a 10 a.m. game against Tuttle on Saturday.
Bishop Kelley
The Comets are one of three teams that made the transition to 6A in 2024, along with Piedmont and Lawton Eisenhower, and although they haven’t seen the same success as Piedmont, the Comets have still shown flashes of being a team that could present some challenges come regionals. The Comets have struggled at times to put runs on the board this season, but they’ll have a chance to flip that narrative against some quality arms in Owasso this weekend. They’ll face off with each of the three teams coming from outside of Oklahoma, with a Thursday matchup against Life Prep (KS), before Friday and Saturday games against Kickapoo and Ozark round out their weekend.
Blanchard
The Blanchard Lions once again look like a top team in 4A, although the rest of the classification is as strong as ever and will make a third rendition of 4A rivals Tuttle and Blanchard in the state finals tough to reach. The Lions sit second in their district behind a strong Bethany squad, with their only blemish being a loss to Harrah in the first district series of the season. This weekend, the Lions will take on the same three out-of-state schools as Bishop Kelley. They’ll be the nightcap each of the three days, taking on Kickapoo on Thursday, Ozark on Friday, and Life Prep to end the weekend on Saturday.
Tuttle
The Tuttle Tigers are off to a strong start in 2024, which seems eerily similar to their starts pretty much every year. They’ve split a doubleheader with an Elk City squad that looks like the Tigers’ toughest competition for the 4A crown and picked up high-quality wins against teams like Washington, Bethany (x2), and Calumet. This weekend, they’ll play a game a day just like the other three Oklahoma squads. Thursday brings a matchup with Life Prep, on Friday they’ll take on Kickapoo, and on Saturday they’ll close the weekend with a battle with Owasso.
