During the 2023 high school season, SSBR started a high school “Dominant Dozen” rankings. These rankings were meant to showcase who was thought to be the best teams in the state relative to their classification.
Does that mean we think that a class A team can consistently beat several 6A teams? Some could, but the depth at the higher classes is seemingly higher and there are more stronger teams the higher the class you go.
*That is not to take anything away from small school baseball. There are SEVERAL small schools playing baseball at a high level. Seriously, we love small school ball – just look at our Fall Ball coverage.
Last year’s rankings were done as a one man show. This year they are done by committee and use a points system (1st place = 12 pts, 2nd place = 11 pts, etc). That is why you may see ties.
For the first week’s rankings we looked at results + what we think the potential of the teams are. As we go forward, it will be all about the results.
One thing we are now seeing is the margins are razor thin. It may not seem fair for teams to drop with only one loss during the week, but we have to look at who everyone plays and the quality of wins/losses and just not number of wins.
And as always, this is for fun so please take it that way.
Teams That Dropped Out
Sapulpa (PR: 7): Last week: 2-2; Preston (PR: 9): Last week: 2-1; Heritage Hall (PR: 11): Last week: 2-1; Caddo (PR: 12): Last week: 2-2

12. Elk City Elks (4A), 16-3

This week: Mon/Tues vs Clinton; Thurs vs Edmond Santa Fe; Fri vs Byng & Sulphur
11. Calumet Chieftains (B), 11-3

Calument enters the Dozen this week on the back of a 4-0 week including winning the Brexten Green Memorial Tournament in Cashion. The Chieftains beat OSSAA 2A #2 Cashion in the finals.
Calumet have played only 2 games against Class B competition so far this year (2-0). Their losses are to a good 6A Moore squad, and fellow Dominant Dozen teams Elk City and Tuttle.

10. Silo Rebels (3A), 16-3
PR: NR
Silo reenters the Dominant Dozen after a couple of weeks out of it.
The Rebels went 5-0 this week including beating 4A’s Stigler in the finals of the Coal Mining Classic. Silo only has 1 loss to an Oklahoma team this year – a 1 run loss to Rattan.
This week: Thurs-Sat at Bo Duren Invite (Heritage Hall on Thursday)
9. Collinsville Cardinals (5A), 18-2
PR: NR
The Cardinals reenters the rankings this week after dropping out the 2nd week.
Collinsville has won 10 games in a row including a 8-1 win over previously ranked Sapulpa on Thursday.
This week: Mon/Tues vs Grove; Thurs vs Mansfied (TX); Fri vs Chickasha
8. Dewar Dragons (A), 19-1
PR: 1
The Dragons drop out of 1st place this week after losing to Tushka in the finals of the Dewar Gumbo Classic. Dewar won the 3 other games they played last week.
This week: Mon at Allen; Thurs vs Oologah
7. Tushka Tigers (A), 17-1
PR: NR
Tushka is in the Dominant Dozen for the 2nd time this season after being ranked in the first rankings. After losing 1-0 to Calera after that, the Tigers have reeled off 10 wins in a row (they were behind in a game at Gulf Shores when the game was called) and just won the Dewar Gumbo Classic this week.
In the finals of the Dewar Gumbo Classic, the Tigers beat previously unbeaten and OSSAA A #1 Dewar 4-2 scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th.
This week: Mon at Kiowa; Tues vs Allen; Thur-Sat at Roff Tournament
6. Elgin Owls (5A), 15-2
PR: 4
The Owls drop a couple of spots this after getting upset in the Marlow Tournament by Ft Cobb-Broxton (the Mustangs are starting to get hot).
Elgin still has wins over Carl Albert, Chickasha, Tuttle, and Okarche. Rain robbed us of their game vs Washington this Saturday which the Owls were up 2-0.
This week: Mon/Tues vs Lawton Mac; Thurs-Fri at Bill Tipton Classic (Tahlequah, Shawnee, Piedmont)
5. Washington Warriors (3A), 19-2
PR: 2
Like Elgin, Washington drops a few spots after a loss at the Marlow Tournament. The Warriors dropped their first round game vs Mount St Mary. The rest of the week the Warriors went 3-0.
This week: Mon/Tues vs Lone Grove; Thurs-Sat at Bo Duren Invitational
4. Bixby Spartans (6A), 18-3
PR: 10
In a week that saw several of the top teams lose at least one game, Bixby went 4-0 beating Bishop Kelly twice, Salina, and Sapulpa. The Spartans have lost only 2 games to Oklahoma teams this season and they were both 6A teams: Jenks and Choctaw. (Bixby did beat Choctaw the first time they played.)
This week: Mon/Tues vs Piedmont; Thurs vs Edmond North; Fri vs Edmond Memorial; Sat: vs Deer Creek
3. Oktaha Tigers (2A), 17-2
PR: 6
In a rankings that emphasizes what teams do relative to their classification, Oktaha may be the most dominant so far.
The Tigers are 12-2 against teams in higher classifications with their losses to Carl Albert and Edmond North. They are 4-0 vs 2A and A competition.
Oktaha won the Hilldale/Ft Gibson this weekend coming from behind and walking it off in extras vs a really good Rattan team.
This week: Tutes vs Warner; Thur-Sat at Jones Tournament (vs OCS on Thurs)
2. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 21-2
PR: 5
Tuttle had a “quiet” week last week going 3-0. They swept their district series vs Harding Charter and beat a game Bethany squad on Thursday.
This week: Mon at Dale; Thurs-Sat at Nike-Pro 9 Owasso Festival (vs Life Prep, Kickapoo (MO), Owasso)
1. Choctaw Yellowjackets (6A), 17-1
PR: 3
All Choctaw does is win. In a class (6A) where it seems everyone beats up on each other, the Yellowjackets (and Bixby) have emerged as the current teams to beat.
Choctaw has played 13 of their 18 games vs 6A competition and have won all but one of them. However, the Jackets avenged that loss to Bixby with a win in the finals of their own tournament 2 weeks ago.
This week: Mon/Tues vs Edmond Memorial; Thurs at Jenks; Fri at Broken Arrow
