With it being our 2nd season here at Sooner State Baseball Report, we are trying some new things out to make our coverage even better. One of those things is awarding a Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week for the various levels. Each week we will send out a nomination form to each head coach and we will pick from those nominations.

We have awards in the small college division (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) and the junior college division.

Here are your winners for the week.

Small College

Player of the Week

Kyle Williams (OF), MACU Evangels

In a week where the Evangels had some big numbers offensively, Williams stood out. The junior from Dallas had 7 extra base hits and added 12 RBI to his now total of 36.

Williams’ line: G 4, .647 (11-17), 2 HR, 5 2B, 12 RBI, BB, 7 R, SB

Pitcher of the Week

Garrett DeHaas (RHP), NWOSU Rangers

The senior from Meno, OK did all he could to give the Rangers a win in game one of their series at Harding. When the Bisons came to bat in the 8th inning after DeHaas left the game, the score was tied.

Player of the Week

Jesse Ponce (INF), NOC Enid Jets

NOC Enid dropped 2 of 3 to Western, but it wasn’t because of the performance of Jesse Ponce. The freshman from Sasche, TX was outstanding for the Jets.

Ponce’s line: .571 (4-7), OBP .769, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, 5 BB, 4 R, HBP, SB

Pitcher of the Week

Brody Roe (LHP), Murray State

In his one start for the week, Roe was the player of the game for the Aggies. After giving up an unearned win in the first inning and his team struggling to get any runs, Roe shut down Redlands the rest of the way allowing Murray State to walk it off in the 7th.
