When Sooner State Baseball Report started last year, we tried to find different and fun content about baseball in the Sooner State that we thought people would enjoy. One of the ways we did that was to start ranking the 30 different college teams in the state. And that’s how the Power 10 was “born.”

Each week until the postseason, we will rank what we think are the 10 best teams in the state relative to their level. We will look at the results of each team based on the level of their competition compared to the other teams in the state.

Does that mean if a junior college team is ranked ahead of an NCAA D1 team we think that JUCO would be the D1? No it doesn’t. But it does mean we think that the JUCO team is playing better than the D1 at their respective levels.

Here is where we think things stand right now (through games on Mar 24).

Please remember this is for fun and should be treated as such.

Teams Dropping Out of the Power Ten

NOC Tonkawa Mavericks (Prev 9): Went 1-3 last week with the 3 losses against Carl Albert State who was 3-6 in conference prior to NOC Tonkawa

Teams Receiving Consideration for Power 10

  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (15-9), NCAA D1: Went 3-1 last week winning series vs TCU
  • USAO Drovers (19-10), NAIA: Went 4-0 last week beating NCAA D2, SWOSU and sweeping Central Christian

10. Oklahoma Baptist University Bison (19-11), NCAA D2

Prev: NR

The Bison went 4-0 last week including a sweep over nationally ranked (#13) Southern Arkansas to keep them in contention in the GAC.

You can check out what our Newt Huntley wrote about them in his weekly “Five Things” here.

This week: Tues vs SE Oklahoma State (non con); Fri-Sat at East Central (3 games)

9. NWOSU Rangers (20-11), NCAA D2

Prev: 9

The Rangers stay put at #9 this week after going 2-2 last week. NWOSU went on the road midweek and beat Emporia State before dropping their GAC series at Harding 2-1.

NWOSU is still the highest Oklahoma team in the GAC and is only 1 game back of 1st place.

This week: Tues vs OK Panhandle State; Fri-Sat at SEOSU (3 games)

8. Oklahoma Sooners (14-9), NCAA D1

Prev: 4

The Sooners had a rough week last week going 1-3. However, the 1 win was a combined no hitter by Braden Davis and Reid Hensley.

OU still sits atop the Big 12 standings and that is what is keeping the Sooners still in the Power 10.

This week: Tues vs Oral Roberts; Thur-Sat vs Lamar (3 games)

7. Oklahoma City University Stars (21-10), NAIA

Prev: 10

OCU moves up 3 spots this week on the back of sweeping Texas Wesleyan University.

OCU has won 6 games in a row (2 SAC series sweeps) and the Stars sit in 2nd place in the Sooner Athletic Conference behind MACU.

This week: Fri-Sat at SW Assemblies of God University (3 games)

6. NOC Enid Jets (23-9), NJCAA D2

Prev: 2

The Jets had risen to the #2 spot in the Power 10 last week. However, after going 1-3 last week including a 2-1 series loss to Western, the Jets fall 4 spots in this week’s rankings.

Enid still is in 1st place in the D2 Region 2 standings at 10-2.

This week: Tues at NEO; Thurs at NOC Tonkawa; Sat vs NOC Tonkawa (DH)

5. Western OK State College Pioneers (21-10), NJCAA D2

Prev: 8

Western just keeps plugging along. Last week the Pioneers went 3-1 including a 2-1 series win over league leading NOC Enid.

WOSC has won all 4 conference series so far this season and are currently in 2nd place.

This week: Tues at MACU JV; Thurs at Redlands CC; Sat vs Redlands CC (DH)

4. MACU Evangels (20-8), NAIA

Prev: 7

MACU beat up on in-state for OPSU and swept the Aggies over the weekend after beating NCAA D2, Southern Nazarene earlier in the week.

The Evangels hold the current longest winning streak in the state at 8 wins.

While MACU is in 1st place in the SAC, they face KCAC leading OKWU on Wednesday.

This week: Wed vs OKWU; Fri-Sat vs Texas Wesleyan (3 games)

3. Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles (22-9), NAIA

Prev: 3

OKWU started off the week with a bad loss to Tabor, but they answered that with a sweep of Sterling on the road.

The Eagles are still sitting in first place of the KCAC at 18-3 in conference while Kansas Wesleyan and Tabor are both at 14-4.

This week: Wed at MACU; Fri & Sat at Park (2 games)

2. Connors State Cowboys (28-4), NJCAA D1

Prev: 4

Connors State had an undefeated week last week going 4-0. Those wins were against a post grad team and an Arkansas State Three Rivers team that has won 3 games.

This week: Mon vs OKWU JV (DH); Thurs vs Rose State; Sat at Rose State (DH)

1. UCO Bronchos (23-7), NCAA D2

Prev: 1

UCO remains at the top spot this week, but it is by a razor thin margin. The ‘Chos lost 2 of 3 to Pittsburg State over the weekend. What keeps UCO in first is the fact that the Gorillas are a top team this year in the MIAA.

This week: Tues at Northeastern State; Thurs-Sat vs Emporia State (3 games)
