We had another exciting week of baseball last week. A few teams had some “Hey! Remember us?” big series wins and a couple of no-no’s as well.
1. Oklahoma Baptist Sweeps Southern Arkansas
Coming into the 2024 season, OBU was being touted as a team that could really make some noise in the Great American Conference. The Bison have shown signs of being that team, but for the most part it has been an up and down season on Bison Hill.
This past weekend the Bison had an opportunity to make a statement and possibly kick start their season back in the right direction hosting a series against nationally ranked (#13) Southern Arkansas.
And what a statement the Bison made. OBU swept the Muleriders holding SAU to an average of only 3 runs per game.
It couldn’t have come at a better time for OBU as well. Coming into the weekend at 7-8 in conference, the Bison were in danger of being behind the “8 ball” if they had lost the series. Sweeping the Muleriders move’s OBU’s GAC record to 10-8. They are still in 8th place, but 1) they are technically only 2 games out of 1st place and, 2) are 3 games clear of 9th place. (The top 8 teams make the postseason tournament.)

OBU still has to play SWOSU, SNU, ECU, Henderson State, and Ouachita.
2. Oklahoma State Gets a Much Needed Big 12 Series Win
Yes, it was only the 2nd Big 12 series for the Cowboys, but this weekend with TCU coming into Stillwater felt like a huge one (for both teams). OU was coming into this past weekend 6-0 and a series loss could’ve made it difficult for the Pokes to catch up and win the conference down the road.
Things didn’t look good for OSU as they lost 1-0 in a pitcher’s dual on Friday night. However, the Pokes put 2 solid games together and won the series over the Frogs.
The Cowboys travel to West Virginia this weekend in good position.

3. Southern Nazarene Picks Up a Series Win Over Arkansas Tech
We don’t talk too much about SNU around here, but it is what it is. The struggling program hasn’t had much to talk about recently.
Until now. The Crimson Storm welcomed Arkansas Tech to Bethany this weekend and sent the Wonder Boys home with a series loss to SNU.
It was also the way the Crimson Storm did it. After providing a go ahead grand slam in game 1 against ATU, Colby Entwistle clinched the series with a 3-run walk off bomb in game 2.
4. Our NAIA Squads Are Pretty Good
Five of the six NAIA teams in our state swept their respective series this past weekend.
- MACU over OPSU
- OCU over Texas Wesleyan
- USAO over Central Christian
- Southwestern Christian over Crowley’s Ridge
- OK Wesleyan over Sterling
In the Sooner Athletic Conference, four of the top five teams are Oklahoma schools.

In the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, OK Wesleyan is still leading the pack.

5. A Couple of No-No’s on Friday
You’ve probably heard about the combined no hitter in Norman on Friday night.
But did you know that another no-no took place on Friday? In the high school ranks, Laird Williams and Garrett Baker combined to throw a no hit vs Bishop Kelley at the Edmond Spring Break Festival. The 2 combined for 7 innings of no hit ball with a combined 10 strikeouts against only 3 walks.
