Normally we do the rankings roundup on Wednesdays, but we’ve had some major movement for some Oklahoma squads that we couldn’t “sit on” any longer.

NCAA D1

Let’s start with the team making the biggest noise in the rankings this week – OU.

As you can see OU has entered the latest rankings according to d1baseball.com. After sweeping the previously ranked #12 TCU Horned Frogs in Ft Worth, the Sooners are the best team through 2 weeks in the Big 12 and these rankings show it.

Not only is d1baseball.com showing the Sooners some love, Baseball America is too.

Even Perfect Game has OU in their rankings.

NJCAA D1

As you can see, none of the state’s 5 NJCAA D1 teams are even receiving votes let alone ranked. Connors State was receiving votes the last few weeks, but 2 – 2-2 weeks in a row dropped them from consideration.

This one is a little confusing to me. Western OK State is ranked at the #14 spot, but they dropped 2 spots after winning a series against a team that was receiving votes last week (NOC Tonkawa). The Pioneers are also in 3rd place in their conference division behind Tonkawa and NOC Enid who is receiving votes and according to this graphic would be #21 if the rankings stretched out more.

It it were me, I’d rank all 3 teams with NOC Enid, NOC Tonkawa, and Western in that order. Oh wait, we do have that here at SSBR.

The good thing is NOC Enid goes to Altus for a 3 game series this weekend.

NAIA

The NAIA Coaches Poll doesn’t come out until next week (they are an every other week operation), but I did think it was interesting to look at Boyd’s World. It is an analytical look at the teams based on multiple factors and they also do it for NCAA baseball.

As you can see, MACU comes in at #11 in these ratings. Wins against LSU-Shreveport (#2), Missouri Baptist (#13), and 2 against OCU (#21) hold a lot of weight. That’s why the Evangels have a strength of schedule currently at #3.

As we said OCU comes in at #21.

Oklahoma Wesleyan who is leading the KCAC right now comes in at #23.

Also of note is the Bo Chip Report. This is important when it comes to awarding at-large bids to the NAIA National Tournament as the committee use these as a guide for selections.

Current Oklahoma schools Bo Chip rankings

  • OCU – 6
  • MACU – 15
  • OKWU – 24
  • USAO – 25
  • SCU – 113
  • OPSU – 147

NCAA D2

The original post did not have the NCAA D2 rankings listed due to them coming out a day later. The latest version of this post has included them.

UCO makes it back into the rankings this week at #25 after dropping out a few weeks ago. The Bronchos are on a 7 game win streak. I couldn’t tell you if that is fair or not, but I do know their 22-5 record looks a lot better than say a 11-6, 13-8, or 12-5.

UCO stays put at #5 in the Central Region and NWOSU stays at #7 with their series win over Arkansas Tech who is receiving votes. OBU is essentially tied with Arkansas Tech for 11th.
