With it being our 2nd season here at Sooner State Baseball Report, we are trying some new things out to make our coverage even better. One of those things is awarding a Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week for the various levels. Each week we will send out a nomination form to each head coach and we will pick from those nominations.

We have awards in the small college division (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) and the junior college division.

Here are your winners for the week.

*We did not have any nominations from any junior college teams so that is why there is only winners from small college (4 year schools) this week.

Player of the Week

Jacob Police, Mid America Christian University

You know that saying where someone says the baseball looks like a beach ball to a hot hitter? Well, that’s what it probably seemed like to Jacob Police last week.

The 2nd baseman from Arizona just couldn’t get out (almost) in 4 games last week (1 vs OCU, 3 vs Central Christian). Police was a menace to pitchers as he hit .769 (10-13).

Not only was Police getting plenty of hits, they were loud ones as well as 4 of his 10 hits were of the extra bases variety.

Police’s line: G 4, .769 (10-13), 2 HR, 2 2B, 9 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, 2 SB

Other nominees:

  • Peyton McDowall, USAO: .500 (5-10), 3 HR, 2B, 8 RBI, 5 BB
  • Carson Wright, NWOSU: .429 (6-14), HR, 2B, 4 RBI (Walk off hit vs Arkansas Tech)
  • Chad Pike, OCU: .400 (6-15), 3 HR, 2B, 6 RBI, BB

Pitcher of the Week

Colby Mitchell, Northwest Oklahoma State University

Mitchell took the mound in game 2 of the Rangers’ big series against Arkansas Tech with the chance to clinch the series for NWOSU. All the junior from Berryhill did was pitch his best game of the year so far.

Mitchell stifled the Wonder Boys hitters over 7 innings. He face only 3 hitters over the minimum and 9 of the 13 outs put in play were ground balls. When Mitchell left the game, the Rangers had a 3-0 lead.

Mitchell’s line: G 1, GS 1, (W) 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 6 K, BB

Other nominees:

  • Brian Ereu, USAO: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 7 K, BB
  • Zane Robeaux, MACU: (W) 7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 6 K, BB (all in relief)
  • Kade Shatwell, OCU: (W) 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 6 K, BB
  • Colby Diduch, OPSU: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 13 K, 4 BB
