What a week it was and some teams in the Sooner State have got us excited (well, at least me). Although it might be time to get really concerned about one team that has seen better days.

1. The Sooners Are Sitting On Top of the Big 12

What looked like it could be a bad week after getting stomped by OSU on Tuesday turned into a great week when the Sooners went into Ft Worth and swept one of the preseason favorites in the Big 12, TCU.

OU did it multiple ways over the weekend: come backs, timely hitting, and great pitching. It was an exciting weekend of baseball by the Sooners.

OU sits a full 2 games ahead in the Big 12 standings after this weekend and they are the only undefeated team currently in the conference.

Not only are they atop the Big 12 standings, the Sooners are currently 5th in RPI and have the toughest strength of schedule.

2. Time To Be Concerned About ORU?

On the flip side of what the Sooners are doing in Norman, we’ve got the Golden Eagles going in the opposite direction. ORU is currently 7-13 and just got swept by South Dakota State in their conference opening series at home. The week before, ORU lost a home series to UMASS Lowell (I’ve never even heard of UMASS Lowell).

It is still early, but ORU lost ONLY 1 game in conference last year. The Golden Eagles did win 21 in a row leading up to the Super Regional last year so there’s that, but they weren’t playing to a .350 winning percentage before that streak either.

3. OK Wesleyan Still Sitting In 1st Place of KCAC

Last week we brought your attention to the fact that the Eagles had gone on a nice run and were in 1st place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. One week later, we’re glad to inform you that they are still in 1st place and have a bigger lead than this time last week.

OKWU played 2nd place Tabor in a double header last Tuesday in which they split with the Blue Jays and snapped Tabor’s 13 game winning streak.

Then OKWU hosted 3rd place Avila and they swept the Eagles and thanks to a loss by Tabor the Eagles now have a 2 game lead in the standings.

OKWU looks to increase that lead to 3 on Tuesday as they face Tabor to finish their series.

4. UCO Stays Hot

The hottest team in the Sooner State is the UCO Bronchos. They’ve won their last 7 games including 2 conference sweeps vs Newman and a good Fort Hays State team. UCO outscored the Tigers by an average of 8-2 over the 3 games.

The Bronchos currently sit in a tie for 3rd in the MIAA and have a 3 game series at Pittsburg State (who they are tied with) this coming weekend.

5. MACU Sitting in Good Position in SAC

The Sooner Athletic Conference has 9 teams so that means once conference season starts, one of the teams will not be playing a conference series. Through the first 3 weeks, MACU has played 3 conference series, won all 3 of them, swept Central Christian (like they should), and sit at 7-2 after 9 games.

That record puts them in 2nd place officially, but the “leader” Wayland Baptist has played only 6 games against the bottom 2 teams and are 5-1.

Not only that, MACU is a top eleven team overall in the team strength ratings and they have the 2nd toughest schedule in the nation. Makes that 16-8 record look pretty ok doesn’t it?
