Welp, it is March in Oklahoma so that means if you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes and it’ll change. The rain (and cold) played some havoc on the schedule starting on Thursday for both college and high school. In fact, a few college series are wrapping up today (Monday) because of it.
No matter though. We’ve got you covered with “Five Things” we think you should know from this past week.
1. OU gets back on track
Let’s face it. After OU going 0-2 in Las Vegas last weekend and standing at 5-5 (they got rained out in another game), the mood concerning the Sooners was not good. But this is baseball and things can, and usually do, change in a hurry.
The Sooners beat a better than expected Wichita State team in their midweek game on Tuesday (seriously, isn’t kind of cool to see the Shockers relevant again?).
OU then set their sights on UCF who was making their Big 12 debut after a win at highly ranked Florida. The Knights also beat Miami earlier in the season and were high in the RPI.
But as James Droz would say, “Hey UCF! What happened?!”
OU swept the series against UCF and outscored the Knights 29-8. I don’t know about you, but averaging over 8 runs/game in a series should win you most series.
2. We’ve got a conference leader in the Sooner State
Don’t look now, but the Eagles at OK Wesleyan are playing some really good baseball over the last month or so. They’ve won 6 games in a row and 9 of their last 10.
The Eagles also sit atop the KCAC Conference standings at 11-1.

Granted, the Eagles haven’t played the 3 teams that are right behind them: Tabor, Avila, and Kansas Wesleyan, but the Eagles have done what they’ve needed to do and that is win the games they should win.
3. There is a new home run king in Chickasha
The USAO Drovers traveled to the desert for a 3 game series vs the University of the Southwest. While they were there, they unloaded 14 bombs in the 3 games on the Mustangs.
However, it is the performance of one individual that was brought to our attention that is worth mentioning. Peyton McDowall became the all time home run leader for the Drovers with his 3 bombs in Hobbs, NM.
There is still a lot of ball left to be played this season so it’ll be interesting to see where the bar is set when McDowall is done.
4. There’s a new pitching wins king in West OKC
One of the best pitchers in the state is Isaac Baez of MACU. Baez is the Evangels workhorse and gets the ball in big games.
This Sunday, Baez got the win for MACU in their game 1 win over OCU. That marked the 5th win this season and the 14th in his 2 years (so far) at MACU.
The 14th win broke the team’s all time win record in the NAIA era for MACU (since 2007).
5. Tuttle just reloads
Stop me if you’ve heard this before. The Tuttle Tigers are the favorites to win the 4A State title.
Seriously, the Tuttle Tigers don’t rebuild, they reload and that was on display this past Saturday against the defending 3A State Champs, Washington.
After falling behind 3-0, the Tigers rattled off 9 unanswered runs before Washington scored 2 in the 7th for a 9-5 win.
The Tigers have a big week this week as they play Blanchard then Elk City in a double header.
