With it being our 2nd season here at Sooner State Baseball Report, we are trying some new things out to make our coverage even better. One of those things is awarding a Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week for the various levels. Each week we will send out a nomination form to each head coach and we will pick from those nominations.

Since the NCAA D1 season hasn’t started yet, we have awards in the small college division (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) and the junior college division.

Here are your winners.


Small College Awards

Player of the Week

Carson Wright (OF), Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers

The junior transfer from Dodge City CC had an impressive debut for the Rangers. NWOSU had an impressive 2-1 series win over Metro State University of Denver and Wright was a huge reason why.

The Rangers had 2 come from behind walk offs in the series. Wright hit the game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th to start the rally in game 1.

For the series, Wright slashed .500/.600/1.250 with 3 HRs, 3 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB.

Mozart Duarte (LHP), Southwestern Christian Eagles

The Sophomore from the Dominican Republic had an impressive first outing in 2024. Duarte started game 4 of the Eagles series vs Dallas Christian just after SCU lost game 3. Needing a win to clinch the series, Duarte dominated DCC and led the Eagles to a game 4 win and a series win.

Duarte’s line: (W) 4 IP, 2 H, O ER, 11 K’s, 3 BB

Player of the Week

Cooper Smith, NOC Enid Jets

The freshman from Marlow was all everything for the Jets in their series at Southeast Arkansas. The switch hitter hit a HR from each side of the plate and led a high octane offense.

For the weekend, Smith hit .538 with 2 HR, 2B, 8 RBI, 4 R, BB

In the series rubber game, the sophomore came in clutch and led the Vikings to the game 3 and series win.
