MLB.com released it’s initial Top 100 prospect list for 2024 last Friday and three former Oklahoma high school ball players made the list. Jackson Holliday (1), Jackson Jobe (25), and Cade Horton (26) represent the Sooner State on the list.

Below are what we wrote about each player in our “Oklahomans In The Pros” series this past offseason.

Jackson Holliday

  • Organization: Baltimore Orioles
  • High School: Stillwater HS
  • Final ’23 ranking: #1
  • Current ranking: #1

2023 Stats: 125 games; .323/.442/.499; OPS .941; 12 HRs; 75 RBIs

Holliday played at all 4 levels in his first full year in the minors. Although he is only 18 months removed from his high school graduation, Holliday is already considered the #1 overall prospect.

Holliday was so good this year, he was voted the MiLB Hitting Prospect of the Year.

Jackson Jobe

  • Organization: Detroit Tigers
  • High School: Heritage Hall
  • Final ’23 ranking: #54
  • Current ranking: #25

2023 Stats: G 16, GS 16, 64 IP, 2-4, ERA 2.81, 84 Ks, 6 BB

Jobe is the 3rd top prospect from Oklahoma (behind Jackson Holliday and Cade Horton). He is now the #2 prospect from Oklahoma – 1 spot ahead of Horton.

It was announced in mid March that Jobe would be sidelined for 3-6 months with lumbar spine inflammation. He made his season debut on June 17 for the Tigers’ rookie team. He worked his way up to A ball then spent most of the rest of the season at A+ in West Michigan. Jobe did have 1 start at AA Erie at the end of the season.

The #3 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft is a high priority for the Tigers as he is #54 overall prospect, #9 RHP overall prospect, and #3 prospect in the Tigers’ system according to MLB.com.

He also played in the Arizona Fall League.

Cade Horton

  • Organization: Chicago Cubs
  • High School: Norman High
  • Final ’23 ranking: #29
  • Current ranking: #26

2023 Stats: G 21, GS 21, 88.1 IP, 4-4, 2.51 ERA, 117 Ks, 27 BB

The former Tiger and Sooner had a monster year in his first pro season. The 2022 #7 overall pick by the Cubs started the season in A, Myrtle Beach where he was promoted after just 4 starts to A+, South Bend. After just 11 starts at South Bend, Horton was promoted again to AA, Tennessee where he made 6 starts.

Horton was dominant at each stop and he even had some people covering the Cubs speculating there was a slim chance he could be called up to Chicago when the rosters expanded in September. He was so good in 2023, that his name has been speculated in trades for Juan Soto or Tyler Glasnow.

Horton was so dominant that he was name as a finalist for the MiLB Pitching Prospect of the Year.

Horton is the Cubs’ #2 top prospect and the 29th 26th overall according to MLB.com.
