You know it is getting close to baseball season when conferences name their respective preseason teams. The Big 12 did just that today as they released their All Big 12 Preseason Team on Wednesday.
The state of Oklahoma was represented by 5 players on the team. Two players from Oklahoma State, one from Oklahoma, and two others who played high school ball were named. Four of the five players played high school ball in Oklahoma.
Nolan Schubart, Oklahoma State (OF)
Schubart was one of six players that were unanimous selections to the team. The Durand, MI native batted .338 for the Pokes in 2023 with 17 HRs and 74 RBIs. The 74 RBIs are the most for a Cowboy since 2007.
Schubart was named to multiple All-America and Freshman All-America teams. He was name to the 3rd team All American teams by Collegiate Baseball, the NCBWA, and ABCA/Rawlings.
He was also a unanimous selection to the Big 12 All Freshman team winning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week three times.
Carson Benge, Oklahoma State (Yukon HS) (UTL)
Benge did a little of everything for the Cowboys in 2023. He pitched, he DH’d, he played outfield, and he pitched.
At the plate, Benge hit .345 with 7 HRs and 43 RBIs. On the mound, he was 2-2 with 35 Ks in 35 IP.
Benge was a NCBWA Freshman All-American and a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award in 2023. The Yukon Miller product was also an All Big 12 First Team member as an utility player and 2nd Team as an outfielder. Benge was a unanimous All Big 12 Freshman selection.
Bryce Madron, University of Oklahoma (Blanchard HS) (OF)
The former Blanchard Lion lead the Sooners in several offensive catagories in 2023: 12 HRs, 15 2B, 51 RBIs, 58 R, 61 BB, .476 OBP, and .580 SLG while batting .320.
Madron was an All Big 12 Honorable Mention selection in 2023.
Payton Tolle, TCU (Bethany HS) (LHP/INF)
Even though this will be Tolle’s first season in the conference, he was a unanimous selection to the All Big 12 Preseason Team as a pitcher.
After graduating from Bethany High School in 2021, Tolle spent his first 2 collegiate seasons at Wichita State.
In 2023, Tolle was a 2nd Team All American for NCBWA, Baseball America, and ABCA/Rawlings. He was also a 3rd Team All American for Perfect Game and D1Baseball.com. In addition to those accolades, Tolle was a finalist for the John Olerud Two Way Player of the Year in 2023. He was selected to the AAC All Conference First Team as well.
For the 2023 season, Tolle batted .311 with 13 HRs and 50 RBIs. On the mound Tolle made 15 appearances (14 starts) with 85.2 IP. His record was 9-3 with a 4.62 ERA with 97 Ks to only 19 BB.
Janson Reeder, Kansas University (Edmond North HS) (DH)
The former Edmond North Husky was an All Big 12 First Team selection at DH in 2023 as well as 2nd Team ABCA/Rawlings All Central Region selection.
In 2023, Reeder slashed .276/.371/.558 with 12 HRs and 45 RBI.
