MLB.com is released it’s first Top 10 positional prospects rankings on Tuesday. The first position released was right handed pitchers and 2 former Oklahoma preps stars were listed at #2 and #3.
Jackson Jobe
Jackson Jobe a Heritage Hall grad (’21) was named the 2nd best right handed pitcher prospect.
Jobe spent most of the 2023 season at High-A, West Michigan. He’s had some injury issues since being drafted #3 overall in the 2021 draft including a lumbar issue that kept him out until mid June in 2023.
When Jobe was able to pitch in 2023, he was nothing short of phenomenal. In his 16 starts, Jobe had an ERA of 2.81 with 84 Ks to only 6 walks (!) in 64 innings pitched. Jobe also pitched in the Arizona Fall League going 15.2 IP with a 2.87 ERA and 19 Ks.
As of the last MLB.com prospect rankings (late in the 2023 season), Jobe was the 9th top RHP prospect and #54 overall.
MLB.com has Jobe estimated to make the Majors sometime in 2025.
Cade Horton
Coming in as the 3rd best RHP prospect is Cade Horton from Norman High (’20).
After 2 years at OU, Horton was drafted #7 overall by the Chicago Cubs in 2022. In his first year of pro ball in 2023, Horton was dominant. He was so good that he was named as a finalist for the MiLB Pitching Prospect of the Year.
In his 21 starts last year, Horton posted an ERA of 2.51 with 117 Ks to only 27 walks (!) in 88.1 innings pitched.
In the last prospect rankings of 2023, Horton was the Cubs’ #2 prospect and 29th overall according to MLB.com
MLB.com also has Horton estimated to make the Majors sometime in 2024 (although as a huge Cubs fan and someone who follows the entire organization, I’d put that at 50/50).
