For the 2023 Spring high school season, we had a little fun here at SSBR and did a weekly rankings of the high school teams across every class called the “SSBR High School Dominant Dozen.” This Fall we are going to keep that going, but with only 2 classes playing, we are going to trim down the rankings to just 6 – hence the “Super Six.”

We will be looking at records, strength of schedule, and how each team is playing relative to their level.

Please remember that this is for fun.

Teams Receiving Consideration

(In alphabetical order)

Dale (11-6), A; Preston (16-1), A; Stuart (15-3), B; Wright City (15-5), A

Teams Dropped Out of Rankings

  • Tushka Tigers (Prev #4) – went 1-2 last week losing to Wright City and Latta

6. Okarche Warriors (15-2), A

Prev: NR

Okarche makes their season debut in the Super Six. Quite honestly, they could’ve made it sooner.

The Warriors have put together an impressive resume after 5 weeks. They’ve won 15 of their 17 games. Those wins include victories over current OSSAA Class A #4 AmPo, B #2 Calumet (the Chieftan’s only loss), B #9 Mulhall-Orlando, A #16 Ripley (2x), and B #8 Granite.

Okarche’s 2 losses have come against Class B’s two top teams, Ft Cobb-Broxton and Calumet (also current SSBR Super Six teams). Both were 1 run games and the loss to FCB was in 13 innings. A hit here or there and the Warriors could be undefeated.

This week: 9/11 vs Lomega; 9/14-9/16 at Ripley Tournament

#5 Wister Wildcats (14-3), A

Prev: #6

Wister had a light week last week, but they did beat one of the hottest teams despite class in Byng. The Wildcats scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st and controlled the rest of the game.

This week: 9/11 at Leflore; 9/12 at Red Oak; 9/14-9/16 at Rattan Tournament

#4 Ft Cobb-Broxton Mustangs (19-3), B

Prev #5

After their hiccup(s) in the Roff Tournament a few weeks ago: losing to Tushka and getting run ruled by Rattan, the Mustangs have ran off 8 wins in a row. They’ve beaten current Class A #14 Navajo, #12 Sterling (2x), and #4 AmPo (2x). They also went undefeated in winning the Hydro-Eakly Labor Day Tournament.

FCB may be the most talented team in Class B, but they aren’t the highest rated Class B team in the Super Six.

This week: 9/11 vs Hydro-Eakly, 9/12 vs Calumet, 9/14 at Weatherford Festival, 9/15 vs Dale @ East/West Showdown @ AmPo

#3 Rattan Rams (15-4), A

After losing 2 games to Oktaha and Wister respectively almost a month ago, the Rams have won 9 of 10 games. One of those wins was a run rule vs Ft Cobb-Broxton.

Rattan gave Oktaha one of it’s toughest games earlier this season and they have emerged as on of the few teams in Class A that can challenge the Tigers for the title.

This week: 9/11 at Tupelo; 9/14-9/16 hosts Rattan Fall Classic

#2 Calumet Chieftans (18-1), B

The Chieftans suffered their first loss of the season on 9/1 vs Super Six newcomer, Okarche. This past week Calumet went 4-0 with wins over A #4 AmPo and A #14 Navajo.

Calumet is giving up an average of only 1.42 runs per game.

This week: 9/12 at Ft Cobb-Broxton, 9/14-9/16 at Hammon Tournament

1. Oktaha Tigers (19-0), A

What else is there to say about the Oktaha Tigers? They went 4-0 this past week and won the Silo Tournament.

Silo had a chance to beat the Tigers in the semis, but a flub in the outfield allowed an extra base for Oktaha and next thing you know, the Tigers are up a run and shut down the Silo offense over the last 2 innings.

In the finals, Oktaha beat Dale for the 3rd time this year.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Oktaha this week.

This week: 9/11 vs Silo; 9/12 vs Howe; 9/14 vs Calera; 9/15 at Byng
