When I started SSBR, I had no idea the reception it would get. To say I am more than please so far, would be an understatement. The reception and feedback SSBR has received goes been beyond what I thought it’d be.
Having said that, it is now time for SSBR to take the next step. We are launching this website with WordPress. Substack has provided us a nice place to start, but it is time to expand and grow beyond what Substack can provide. While Substack looks nice and it is able to create a nice looking site, Substack is really made for individual bloggers to charge a monthly subscription fee to access their posts.
As you know, SSBR has not charged any fees to see our content. With the mission of promoting and covering as much baseball in Oklahoma as we can, I do not feel it’d be prudent to hide all of SSBR’s content behind a paywall.
However, to expand and grow SSBR’s presence, it is going to have to take money. Moving to another platform will allow us to generate some revenue while providing the same content you are used to. (I can’t say that SSBR will never charge for content in the future, but we are no where near that right now.) Moving to will also allow SSBR to be found easier without the “substack” in our site address.
Another reason that SSBR is moving to this platform is Twitter/X limits how many people see Substack posts. Elon Musk has some “beef” with Substack and he had his team put algorithms put in place limiting the sharing of Substack posts and took away the thumbnail option for easy access to those posts. For example, currently SSBR has about 1400 followers on Twitter/X. When a post is shared from SSBR’s account, the average number of accounts that see the post is between 200-300 with a link click rate of about 10%-20%. Posting from a the new platform should generate a substantial amount of more accounts that see it and if the click rate is 20%, that many more people will see each article.
I will always be transparent with what is going on with SSBR. From what was an idea to starting the Twitter account on a whim to now over 2100 unique accounts across all our social media accounts, I cannot thank you enough. It is greatly appreciated.
