At SSBR we like to do a weekly “power rankings” where we put all the teams together regardless of class. For the OSSAA, they can’t afford to do that so they ask the coaches of each class to submit rankings on their own. The first set of rankings for both Classes A & B came out today and let’s take a look.

Class A

    • Out of the 45 1st place votes, only 39 went to Oktaha. That’s right, I said, “only.” Through the first 2 weeks, the Tigers beat Dale, Wister, Rattan, and Wright City. That’s the #2, #3, #4, and #7 ranked teams. Both Wister and Wright City received a 1st place vote. Make that make sense. Either the voters aren’t paying attention, have favorites, or just don’t care.
    • Silo getting 2 first place votes is head scratching as well. They lost to Wright City (who they’re ranked ahead of) and Tupelo of Class B.
    • Preston and Navajo are nice stories, but they both don’t deserved 1st place votes at this point because of their strength of schedule.
    • I also have thoughts at Sterling and Sentinel being ranked at #14 and #17 respectively. Each of their one loss is to Ft Cobb-Broxton which is one of the best teams in the state regardless of class.
    • I do like the fact that the top 3 teams in the rankings for Class A are the #1, #2, and #4 teams in the SSBR Fall Super Six.

Class B

    • I really have no issues with these rankings.
    • Ft Cobb-Broxton is where they should be. Their only loss was a 1 run game to SSBR and OSSAA Class A #2 Dale.
    • Tupelo won their own tournament this weekend where they beat Class A contender, Silo.
    • Calumet and Stuart are both undefeated (2 of only 4 undefeated teams left). In fact, they both won Monday night with Stuart beating OSSAA Class B #6 Kiowa, 7-0.
    • Roff is ranked only because of their name. (Have to be honest.)

So there you have it. They aren’t perfect, but the OSSAA has another 7 weeks or so to get them right. We’ll take a look at them each week.
