SSBR’s founder, Newt Huntley, had twin boys that graduated from Norman High School in 2022 and went on to play junior college baseball. While traveling around the region including Texas, Kansas, and other surrounding states to watch his sons play, Huntley realized that the top teams in Oklahoma were just as good as the top teams in surrounding states.

It wasn’t just the high school level either. Sure we know about the traditions at OU and OSU (and now ORU), but baseball is played at a high level in small colleges as well – NCAA D2, NAIA, and Junior College. The problem is those outside the baseball community may not realize what they have in their own back yard.

That is why in January, 2023, Huntley founded Sooner State Baseball Report – to promote and bring as much attention to baseball in Oklahoma. From NCAA D1 to high school, SSBR will bring you as much coverage of Oklahoma baseball as we can.
