SSBR Games of the Week is now sponsored by Chris Cameron, Lippard Real Estate & Auctions. You can check him out at https://www.lippardauctions.com/chris-cameron-bio/ or facebook.com/CCameronAuctions.
The calendar has turned to March and that means the OSSAA baseball season is now in full swing.
All of the classifications are now open to start their seasons this week and that means we have an almost full slate of games this week.
One of the things we like to do at SSBR is highlight 5 games during the week that we think should have a special “focus” on them. They could be matchups of top teams in the same class, rivalries, or even teams that may not get the coverage other programs do.
There are a couple of caveats that we have regarding what games are “eligible” to be selected.
- They cannot be a District series game.
- They cannot be part of a festival or scheduled tournament game that we may be covering during the week.
Without further ado, here are the SSBR Games of the Week for Week 5.
*Rankings are SSBR Sweet Sixteen.

Ft Cobb-Broxton Mustangs (B) vs #4 Elgin Owls (4A)
Monday, April 13, 4:30 p.m.
You can’t say either of these team don’t have a challenging schedule. FCB doesn’t play District games in Class B, but that doesn’t keep them from scheduling top level teams from higher classes. Elgin, for their part, could take the first part of this week “off” since they don’t have District games, but they chose to go on the road to one of the top small class teams.
FCB was ranked as the top Class B team last week by the coaches. They are considered one of the favorites to win the Class B state championship in a few weeks.
Elgin is one of the favorites in Class 4A and comes in to this week with a 21-2 record and sit in the 4th spot in the latest SSBR Sweet Sixteen.
Oklahoma Christian School Saints (3A) vs #3 Mount St Mary Rockets (4A)
Monday, April 13, 5:00 p.m.
It’s not often we get a matchup of teams in the middle classes (3A and 4A) that isn’t a District game on a Monday, but due to their Districts having an odd number of teams, here we are with OCS and Mount St Mary.
Mount St Mary comes into the week at 19-4 and ranked #3 in the latest SSBR Sweet Sixteen. Their 2 losses in the state of Oklahoma are to 6A squads Westmoore and Mustang. The latter came last week in the NW Optimist Classic.
OCS comes into the week with a record of 16-5. They sit atop the standings in District 3A-3 and are a lock to host a Regional. The Saints already have a win over power, Tuttle, and look to get another huge win here.
Calumet Chieftains (B) vs Dover Longhorns (B)
Tuesday, April 14, 4:30 p.m.
Calumet’s record may not look like it, but along with FCB, they are a favorite in Class B to win it all. They’ve only played 2 games against Class B competition to this point (both wins vs Vici) with all the other games vs teams in higher classes.
Dover, for their part, is 16-5 and ranked #4 in Class B by the coaches. Their 2 losses to Class B competition came way back in March. The Longhorns have been making steady progress over the last few seasons and are in position to host a Regional. A win over Calumet would give Dover a ton of confidence heading into the postseason.
#6 Okarche Warriors (A-1) vs #15 Dale Pirates (2A-1)
Thursday, April 16, 5:00 p.m.
Not only is this a matchup of 2 SSBR ranked teams, it is a matchup of 2 #1 ranked teams in their respective classifications according to the coaches.
Both Okarche and Dale are considered the frontrunners for the state title in their classifications. They played three times in the Fall with Okarche winning the first two games and Dale winning the last one.
#8 Tuttle Tigers (4A) vs Blanchard Lions (4A)
Thursday, April 16, 5:00 p.m.
Rivalry game. Enough said.
Tuttle comes into the week with a record of 21-4. Two of those losses came in Owasso last week to the Rams and Ozark (MO). Tuttle is one of the favorites in Class 4A (again).
Blanchard has a record of 17-8 coming into the week. They are undefeated in District and look to host a Regional. The Lions may not have as many “big wins” as they’ve had in recent years, but a win in Tuttle could give the Lions a ton of confidence going into the postseason.
