Some tournaments in the Oklahoma high school schedule have rich traditions. One of those tournaments is the weekend as Putnam City Schools hosts the annual NW Optimist Darrel Palmer Classic.

The tournament is hosted in honor of Darrel Palmer. Palmer was a long time high school coach for NW Classen and led them to a state championship in 1977. Palmer is also responsible for development Dolese Park and one of the fields is named in honor of him. However, the tournament has moved away from Dolese Park and will be played at PCO and PC North High Schools.

As far as this year’s field, it has 2 teams in the current SSBR Sweet Sixteen (Mount St Mary and Choctaw) and another (Mustang) that has been in the rankings at times this season.
