When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.
It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.
Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.
As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.
*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the rankings for Week 5.

1. Mount St Mary Rockets (4A), 15-3; Prev: 2
Mount St Mary slides into the top spot this week with Edmond Memorial sliding down the rankings. The Rockets have lost only 1 game to an Oklahoma school – a 6A school. They went 3-0 last week with all 3 games coming in District including an impressive 11-1 win at Heritage Hall
This week: Mon: vs Woodward (DH); Thurs-Sat: NW Optimist Classic
2. Marlow Outlaws (3A), 16-2; Prev: 3
Up to this point, it looks like Marlow is as big of a favorite to win their class’ state championship as any. They are undefeated against Oklahoma squads including a perfect week last week. Their 4 wins last week included a drubbing of 2025 3A State Champ, Washington in the Marlow Festival
This week: Mon: vs Lexington; Tues: at Lexington; Thurs-Sat: at Southern Oklahoma Invitational
3. Elgin Owls (4A), 17-1; Prev: 8
Elgin is one of the schools to make a huge jump this week. The Owls are riding a 7 game winning streak including 5 in a row last week. They went 3-0 at the Marlow Festival defeating Navajo, Washington, and Ft Cobb-Broxton (all state title contenders in their respective classes).
This week: Mon: at CCS; Tues: vs CCS; Thurs-Sat: Bill Tipton Classic
4. Newcastle Racers (5A), 16-2; Prev: 6
Newcastle only got 2 games in last week due to rain, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to move up in the rankings. The Racers have given up 5 runs or more only 3 times in their 18 completed games and they did beat 6A State Tournament contender, Piedmont in a game last week.
This week: Mon: at Lawton MacArthur; Tues: vs Lawton MacArthur; Thurs-Sat: Southern Oklahoma Invitational
5. Okarche Warriors (A-1), 13-2; Prev: 5
Earlier we said that Elgin may be the biggest favorite to win their State Championship. The one school that may be even bigger is Okarche in A-1. The Warriors went 4-0 last week including winning the Brexten Green Memorial Tournament in Cashion. That championship includeded wins over Calumet in the semis and Silo in the finals.
This week: Tues: vs Dover; Thurs: vs Ampo; Fri: at Weatherford
6. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 18-2; Prev: 4
Tuttle slides a couple spots this week after going 3-1 last week. The Tigers won a couple of close District games vs Purcell to start the week. However, they did get upset at the hands of OCA before winning a 1 run game vs Berryhill on Friday.
This week: Mon: vs Bethany; Tues: at Bethany; Thur-Sat: Nike Pro Nine Classic in Owasso (Owasso, Ozark, Life Prep)
7. Edmond Memorial Bulldogs (6A), 15-7; Prev 1
The Bulldogs slide down the rankings this week after losing 2 games in the Enid Festival. Memorial did start out the week sweeping rival, Edmond Santa Fe in District play before losing games to Bixby and Deer Creek in the Enid Festival.
This week: Mon: at Yukon; Tues: vs Yukon; Thurs: vs Deer Creek; Fri: at #10 Choctaw
8. Sallisaw Black Diamonds (4A), 18-0; Prev: 11
Making a jump up the standings this week is Sallisaw. The Black Diamonds have the longest current winning streak at 18 and are one of the only 3 remaining undefeated teams left (Preston and Rattan).
Interesting tidbit about Sallisaw, they are the only team to defeat Poteau who is currently riding a 14 game heater. They swept the Pirates in the first 2 games of the season.
This week: Tues: vs Alma (AR); Thurs-Sat: Hilldale/Ft Gibson Tournament
