When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.

It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.

Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.

As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.

*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the rankings for Week 4.

1. Edmond Memorial (6A), 12-4; Prev: #1

Edmond Memorial stays in the top spot this week despite losing 3 games. It is hard to hold the fact that the 3 losses this week came against teams from outside the state of Oklahoma in the USA Baseball National Invitational. There is a reason why the Bulldogs were invited to play in this event.

This week: Mon: vs Edmond Santa Fe; Tues: at Edmond Santa Fe; Thurs-Fri: at Enid Festival (Bixby, Blue Valley North (KS), Sand Springs)

2. Mount St Mary Rockets (4A), 12-3; Prev #3

The Rockets slide into the 2nd spot where the margin between them and Marlow is razor thin. MSM went 4-0 last week including a District sweep of Elk City where Parker Hayes threw a no hitter at the Elks’ home field.

The Rockets still have what may be the most impressive win on the season: a run rule at Tuttle.

This week: Mon: vs Clinton; Tues: at Clinton; Wed: vs Heritage Hall

3. Marlow Outlaws (3A), 12-2-1; Prev: #2

Marlow slides one spot after a week where they lost a game and got a tie due to time in an event in Arkansas. The Outlaw are still showing they are the team to beat in 3A to this point and still have impressive wins over teams in the upper classes.

This week: Mon: at Dickson; Tues: vs Dickson; Thurs-Sat: Marlow Festival (#10 Washington, #13 Rattan, Jones)

4. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 14-1; Prev: #4

Tuttle holds down the 4th spot once again after a week where they went 4-0. After defeating McLoud twice in District play, the Tigers went out west on Saturday to play in the I-40 Festival. Tuttle defeated Class B favorite, Calumet 4-1, before having to score 6 unanswered including 4 in the bottom half of the last inning to defeat #5 Okarche, 8-7.

This week: Mon: vs Purcell; Tues: at Purcell; Thurs: at Heritage Hall; Fri: vs OCS & Berryhill; Sat: vs Heritage Hall

5. Okarche Warriors (A-1), 9-2; Prev: 5

Okarche claims the 5th spot for the 2nd week in a row after going 3-1. The Warriors beat Calumet in an SSBR Game of the Week before beating Class 4A teams Elk City and Woodward in the I-40 Festival.

This week: Mon: vs Apache; Thurs-Sat: at Cashion Tournament

6. Newcastle Racers (5A), 14-2; Prev: 6

Newcastle stays at #6 this week with a record of 4-1 last week. The Racers were dominant in their District sweep of Lawton before going 2-1 at the Chickasha Festival. The Racers beat rival Blanchard then Lindsay before dropping a 1 run game to Elgin in their finale.

This week: Mon: vs Altus; Tues: at Altus; Thurs-Sat: Newcastle Festival (Piedmont, Ponca City, Harrah)

7. Yukon Millers (6A), 14-3; Prev: 10

Yukon keeps steadily moving up the rankings. Last week they 4-1 against 6A schools while finishing 2nd in the Choctaw Tournament. At that tournament, the Millers fell behind by several runs to Moore and Bixby in their first 2 games only to come back an win.

The Millers have shown they have the roster to compete in a 3 game format like the state tournament is.

This week: Mon: vs US Grant (DH); Thurs-Sat: Enid Festival (Union, Deer Creek, Sand Springs)

8. Elgin Owls (4A), 12-1; Prev: #9

Elgin move into the top half of the rankings going 4-1 last week. After dispatching of Cache in District play, the Owls went 2-1 in Chickasha. Elgin dropped a game to 4A state tournament contender, Byng, before beating Bridge Creek and #6 Newcastle in the finale.

  1. A team to consider is the Verdigris Cardinals. The Cardinals beat Claremore 1-0 in a preseason scrimmage, beat Dale 7-3 at the Edmond Spring Break Festival, and beat Berryhill 10-0 at the Inola Festival.
